The Brusly Police Department recognized Lieutenant/Detective Allen and Corporal Byrd with Life Saving Awards for their quick actions during two separate medical emergencies in April 2026.
In the first incident, Lt./Det. Allen responded to a call involving an unresponsive individual who was initially reported as breathing. Upon arrival, Lt. Allen found the individual unresponsive, without a pulse, and not breathing while seated in a wheelchair under a carport. Allen and a responding WBR EMS sprint unit quickly moved him to the ground and began CPR immediately. Their swift actions helped the patient regain a pulse before being transported for further medical treatment. He was later released from the hospital after making a full recovery from the incident.
In the second incident, Corporal Byrd responded to a reported overdose in the town limits of Brusly and located an unconscious woman experiencing extreme shallow breathing. Recognizing the signs of an opioid overdose, Corporal Byrd quickly retrieved Narcan from his patrol unit and administered the life-saving medication and first aid. The woman regained consciousness before being transported for additional care making a full recovery.
We are proud to recognize both officers for their professionalism, quick thinking, and dedication to protecting the lives of those in our community. Please join us in congratulating them on this well-deserved recognition.
