🌍 Big News for Our Oceans! 🌊
A study published today by The Guardian suggests that while a total collapse of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) is unlikely this century, a severe weakening remains probable. The AMOC is a critical ocean current that transports warm water from the tropics to the North Atlantic, playing a vital role in regulating global climate.
A significant weakening of the AMOC could lead to floods, droughts, faster sea level rise, and more severe storms, impacting billions worldwide. This system has been under threat due to shifts in ocean salinity and temperature, driven by factors such as melting polar ice and changes in freshwater flows, which disrupt crucial circulation patterns.
🌱 As boaters, we can do our part:
Prevent fuel spills by maintaining engines and using absorbent pads.
Use eco-friendly cleaning products to reduce harmful runoff.
Dispose of waste properly at designated facilities.
Let's make this boating season not only enjoyable but also environmentally responsible! 💙
