Mini-Circuits’ WVA-40603GX+ is a waveguide medium power amplifier operating from 40 to 60 GHz, ideal for 5G-FR2 millimeter wave testing, aerospace and defense, test and measurement, Q-band, and more. The model operates over a single positive supply range of +10 to +15 V, allowing users to choose their desired operating voltage. Internal DC-DC conversion circuitry maintains consistent efficiency over the full input voltage range. The amplifier incorporates several DC protection features such as over-voltage, reverse voltage, and in-rush current protection to protect from damage in case of unexpected spikes in voltage during operation.

The new XAT-Series redefines RF miniaturization with the industry's smallest MMIC fixed attenuators. Housed in an ultra-compact 2-lead, 1×1mm QFN package, these attenuators enable significant PCB space savings for next-generation high-density designs. Built on a robust GaAs semiconductor process, the XAT-Series features a bidirectional, fully absorptive architecture that delivers excellent passband flatness, typical 16 dB return loss, and consistent, repeatable performance from DC to 45 GHz. With up to 2W input power handling, the series provides the performance and reliability required for demanding RF applications. Ideal for test & measurement, satellite communications, radar, EW/ECM, telecom infrastructure, and 5G systems where size, performance, and reliability are critical.

Since Mini-Circuits has published several articles on passive baluns and transformers, and those are referenced in this article, we only briefly touch on the basic principles of passive baluns. The central focus is to understand how baluns are applied to RF lineups that include ADCs and DACs, as well as some of the critical design tradeoffs and practical considerations. Generalized block diagrams as well as references to examples from Texas Instruments’ lineup of ADCs and DACs are included. Read on to learn how simple passive baluns can solve sophisticated problems in the complex differential signaling space.
