Alright, a new Know Your Lumber!! Sitka Spruce, a creamy white lumber with fine texture and known for being a stiff medium. But one of its known uses is that Sitka Spruce is commonly used in the production of Masts and Spars in boatbuilding. Stop by and view our collection of Sitka Spruce in person!

Get to know your Lumber!! Did you know that one of the major uses for Quilted Maple is that it's commonly used and dyed bright colors for the tops of electric guitars!? Or in other cases the wood is stained and then sanded back to gradually reveal the natural color. The result will be accented and shadowed by the darker dye that was left in the low portions of the grain, while the primary color is brought out in the body of the wood. 📷 by .briggs.148: Timber sourcing for my new boat starting to come together... This keel timber is a 25 fot long white oak offcut from the Coronet rebuild by iyrsedu in Providence. The second photo is one of many white oak knees recovered from Boston Harbor at Charlestown Navy Yard. It could have been mine for my puny stem knee (relatively speaking) for a few hundred bucks but I couldn't stand wasting all that beautiful wood/ karma on this. Bought this at and shared the adventure with my friend at communityboatbuilding!
