⚠️ Nearly 2000 people die and over 135,000 people are injured each year due to car accidents on icy and snowy roads. Driving during the winter is particularly dangerous because of black ice. Black ice is often a transparent coating of ice, found especially on a road or other paved surface, and it is nearly invisible to the human eye when driving.

“Black ice” forms when the temperature drops rapidly and is particularly hazardous at night when it may be much more difficult to notice. Drivers should closely watch when other vehicles are no longer creating spray from their tires or when a thin sheet of ice begins to form on the tractor mirrors as this may indicate the formation of “black ice.”

⚠ DRIVING IN LOW-VISIBILITY CONDITIONS
Low-visibility conditions often occur and can be caused by heavy snowfall, downpours, thick fog and blowing dust or smoke. Here are 12 tips for driving in low visibility conditions:
1) Reduce your speed and exercise extreme caution - Other drivers’ actions become very unpredictable.
2) Use low beams and fog lights, not high beams.
3) The best solution to counteract reduced visibility and traction is to slow down, but avoid braking suddenly. Slow down carefully and gently.
4) Ensure you keep your view clear. Always keep your windshield washer reservoir full - it will be used up very quickly if you run into ice fog.
5) Avoid fogged windows by regularly using the defroster and windshield wipers. Moisture can build up on the windshield both inside and out; air conditioning might help keep moisture from building up inside the cab.
6) Minimize distractions. Turn off the music and don’t talk on your phone. Try opening your window to help listen for traffic you might not be able to see.
7) Watch for emergency stops by other vehicles.
8) Watch for slow-moving and parked vehicles.
9) Use the right edge of the road, white fog line or roadside reflectors as a guide.
10) Do not change lanes or pass other vehicles unless necessary.
11) Never stop in the travel lanes.
12) You must always be able to stop in half the distance you can see.
If the visibility is so poor that it would be unsafe to continue driving, do not try to continue to the next place of refuge (truck stop or rest area). Do not continue driving, find a safe place to get off the road immediately.

⚠Drivers beware
11 states under threat of major severe weather outbreak. Hazards ranging from snow to severe thunderstorms will be in the spotlight as a large storm takes shape by tomorrow.

After spring-like temperatures, a widespread storm will develop midweek, bringing the threat of severe weather to portions of the central U.S. before delivering snow to the Great Lakes.

During the winter driving season, we often associate loss of control through skids with snow- or ice-covered roads. Snow and ice can dramatically affect your traction. Heavy, wet snow and sleet are especially slippery to drive on. Most skids occur during severe weather while the driver is operating his/her truck in a manner that is “too fast for conditions.” When drivers do not leave themselves enough time and space to react to hazardous situations and are forced to react quickly, skids often occur due to poor traction on the roadway. Leave yourself plenty of time and space to react to whatever happens around your vehicle.
Be aware that you have to keep all the wheels rolling in order to stay in control of your vehicle. On icy roads, the driver’s tendency is to oversteer or over-brake, especially if he/she panics. This is the worst thing that you can do because any quick movements, such as sudden steering, braking, or acceleration will cause the tires to lose traction on slippery roads.
The driver in this video was able to keep calm and drive on, keeping all of this in mind, let's watch the video.

⚠ Drivers beware!
A far-reaching, disruptive winter storm is forming, forecast to spread a plowable snow and significant icing from the central and southern Rockies to parts of the Northeast this week. Denver, Dallas, and Detroit are among the major metro areas expected to face wintry consequences and potential travel trouble, forecasters say.

An expansive area of snow and ice, extending along an approximate 2,000-mile-long swath of the country, is expected to break out as early as Tuesday night from portions of Colorado and New Mexico to Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan. By Wednesday night, the wintry hazards are forecast to expand farther south and east into Texas, Arkansas, and part of the lower Ohio Valley.

Areas like Dallas, Little Rock, and Indianapolis could be under a significant ice threat around the middle of this week
