Good afternoon everyone!

Despite the wet weather our track crew volunteers were hard at work today moving track materials around!

The day started in Waterville where we picked up our remaining ties and ties for the Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes Railroad . After dropping the ties off in Phillips for SR&RL we high tailed it to Bridgton where we dropped another 150 ties along with more switch stands, switch components, and a derail which arrived on a separate truck!

If you haven't seen our announcement post we are very happy with our collaboration with Bridgton Historical Society about the collective Grand Opening of the Methodist Church Museum on July 3rd in Bridgton where we will be an exhibitor along with our office and archive location. Please see our previous post for more information on that!

Thank you again for your support!

Sincerely,

The Bridgton & S**o River Railroad Museum Board of Directors

For immediate release:

Bridgton Historical Society Collaboration and opening day announcement:

Good afternoon everyone! We are pleased to announce in partnership with Bridgton Historical Society the Grand Opening of the Methodist Church Museum and B&SR Railroad Museum at 4:30 PM on the 3rd of July 2026 in Bridgton! The new museum is located at 214 Main St in Bridgton.

With just weeks to go before opening the 1869 Methodist Church museum on Main Street, BHS has offered us exhibit space in the newly renovated church basement, a room that has welcomed community for over 150 years. We accepted the offer, and work was underway within hours of the agreement. The B&SRR Museum celebrates the glorious era of the “two-footer” that operated from Hiram to Bridgton, and eventually Harrison.

“We are very pleased to announce our partnership with the Bridgton Historical Society and the opportunity to exhibit at the Methodist Church in Bridgton!” said B&SRR Vice President Adam Cook. “BHS has very graciously offered us not only a temporary home for our organization to help us get on our feet, but a unique opportunity to put several B&SR/Bridgton & Harrison collections together under one roof for display and research purposes. This outreach and mutually beneficial agreement make the combined BHS and B&SR RR Museum collections one of, if not the, most complete historical collection of records of the Bridgton Narrow Gauge”.

“This collaboration supports the mission of both organizations; to increase an appreciation of Bridgton’s place in history” said Bridgton Historical Society Executive Director Kerry Cushing. “They have some amazing items in their collection, and they have such passion about their mission. This is great for Bridgton”.

BHS President Jon Evans feels that this was meant to be. “Life plays out in unexpected ways and the timing for both organizations could not have been better. I am so impressed with the character of this group, their knowledge and their dedication to community. They have pledged volunteers and demonstrate endless enthusiasm. I am very much caught up in what they have accomplished, and their collection is terrific! They will be a wonderful addition to our museum”

We look forward to our Grand Opening and invite all who can make it to attend! Following our July 3rd Grand Opening we will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 AM to 4 PM with other special events and hours. We of course also look forward to many future collaborative educational and special events with BHS moving forward!

Yesterday we had volunteers helping paint and started setting up our office and archives at the new location!

We cannot thank Bridgton Historical Society enough for the opportunity and of course our own supporters that have helped us make it this far!

Sincerely,

The B&SR Railroad Museum Board of Directors

Project updates:

Good afternoon everyone!

Today we had some of our track crew up at the Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railroad to help sort out a rail donation they made to us. We are very happy to say that the task was completed before the poor weather set in and that we now have a donated 67lb rail pile staged for shipping to Bridgton!

That move will occur within the next two months and we will also be shipping down some other donated track materials such as joint bars and tie plates at that time.

A huge thank you again to the B&ML Railroad for the donation of the track materials!

Sincerely,

The Bridgton & S**o River Railroad Museum Board of Directors

Good Afternoon!

Some days ago we promised a big announcement today, the 17th of May. While we are going to have to delay that announcement until next week, we have gotten the okay to give a few sneak and behind the scenes peaks! Today we had a large body of our volunteers down at the Bridgton Historical Society helping at the Methodist Church. Tasks including standing a partition wall for their Bridgton timeline display in the church, stripping and preparing office spaces and starting to setup displays on the first floor of the church. We are looking forward to more collaborations with BHS in the coming weeks including some exciting joint announcements soon!

Some of the photos maybe a bit on the nose for what that announcement will entail in the next few weeks but we are more than happy to help BHS and look forward to the future of collaborations with them! Please stand by for more news!

Sincerely,

The B&SR Railroad Museum Board of Directors

Good evening everyone!

Some very exciting news in terms of B&SR preservation this evening we are very happy to share! When we acquired #5's headlight we had every intention to later down the road restore it to working order, thanks to the generosity of those that contributed to the #5 headlight campaign locally and those who's checks arrived after the headlight was acquired we were able to go about investigating this possibility.

Early on we quickly discovered that the headlight was not an oil headlight as we had initially thought. Thanks to the inputs of Bryce Weeks we quickly discovered that the headlight was an acetylene headlight. With this information our mechanics headed up by our treasurer, Dalton Hulsey, got to work. Here only a few days after it returned to Bridgton after being displayed in Portland as part of the Maine Steam Weekend #5's headlight was lighted in Bridgton again.

So we are very pleased to show off the final working product and we have some more exciting news regarding this B&SR artefact and many others coming up! Another hint of that announcement will drop this Sunday!

Thank you for all your support!

Sincerely,

The B&SR Board of Directors

Post two of two from the first day of the Maine Steam Weekend! The star of this photo shoot is #5's headlight back down on the waterfront where the engine was built for the first time in many, many years! Also a sort of reuniting of Engine 5 with 7 showing how far the design legacy of 5 went!

05/10/2026

Greetings everyone!

Day one of the Maine Steam weekend is done and we certainly appreciate everyone that came out to see #7 on the waterfront and stopped by our table despite the weather!

We did take some time to make a little history as well! With this being the first time in many years that parts of #5 have been down in Portland where the engine was built way back in 1906.

For the first time in many years #5 was kind of reunited with B&SR #7 on the waterfront! We did bring the headlight out and placed it briefly on #7's for some photos before safely bringing it back into our display area.

Additionally we brought an original B&SR fireman's coal scoop from our collection down and we can happily say that for a brief time it once again shoveled coal into a B&SR steam engines firebox!

We will be back again at Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Co. & Museum tomorrow on the waterfront and hope to see you there! This is Post one of two.

Hello Everyone!

We are all set up with our display at Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Co. & Museum in Portland as part of the Maine Steam Weekend.

We have several interesting artifacts on display, notably the headlight from Bridgton and S**o River #5!

Be sure to come on over to say hi to us and witness Bridgton and S**o River #7 running along the waterfront!

Good evening everyone! We hope to see many of you this weekend at one of the events of the Maine Two-footer steam weekend starting tomorrow!

We will be down in Portland at Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Co. & Museum tomorrow and Sunday with information on the historic B&SR along with information on the origins and evolution of the 2-4-4T's on the two footers. As part of that display we couldn't help but bring #5's headlight back down to where the engine was built! It will be the first public event where the headlight will be on display since we acquired it! B&SR #7 will be fired up for the weekend so it's a great opportunity to learn about the B&SR and see some of it's historic equipment in operation!

Also of note is the special steam operations at Wiscasset, Waterville and Farmington Railway Museum in collaboration with Maine Locomotive & Machine Works where both WW&F #9 and Monson #3 will be in steam!

We hope to see you on the waterfront!

Good evening everyone!

We are very pleased to show off our first delivery of brand new narrow gauge oak ties to our yard site in Bridgton! As part of a larger combined order with the Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes Railroad we will be acquiring a total of 250 of these ties in preparation for track construction in Bridgton, The first 100 arrived today with the remaining 150 scheduled for pickup and delivery in a few weeks.

The ties were purchased with funds from our yard development campaign and a generous donor. With some recent developments in Bridgton we have felt confident enough to start ordering in more track materials!

And speaking of developments in Bridgton we will be having a BIG press release on May 17th, so please stay tuned!

Sincerely,

The B&SR Railroad Museum Board of Directors
