In the last 60 days, we’ve seen several providers make the same costly mistake: purchasing a rear entry wheelchair-accessible vehicle before fully understanding California’s requirements for enrolling with Medi-Cal.

Networking doesn't end when the event is over.

Having ONE revenue stream in your NEMT business will have you going from happy, excited, and feeling like you finally made it… to stressed, questioning what went wrong and wondering how you’re going to keep up with your expenses when the trips suddenly slow down.

When we originally created this post, we were going to say, “Working with one transportation broker will have you feeling like this.”

But the truth is, it’s bigger than brokers.

One hospital contract can do it.

One facility can do it.

One government contract can do it.

One school contract can do it.

Any opportunity that becomes responsible for the majority of your revenue can put your business in a vulnerable position.

And when the money is GOOD, it’s easy to get comfortable.

You stop marketing.
You stop building relationships.
You stop looking for the next opportunity.
You stop asking, “What’s next?”

Until something changes.

The facility decides to bring transportation in-house. Funding gets cut. Leadership changes. A contract isn’t renewed. Trip volume drops. There’s an issue with one of your drivers. Or they simply decide to go in another direction.

And just like that, a business generating multiple six figures can be fighting to cover expenses.

Never allow one great opportunity to make you so comfortable that you forget the original goal: building and growing YOUR business.

Celebrate the contract. Serve the client well. Make the money.

But keep building.

Because continuous growth isn’t about chasing everything. It’s about making sure losing ONE opportunity doesn’t have the power to take your entire business down.
