For eight years, Ryan has set the standard for quality and efficiency at Boyne Boat Yard. Known for his clear communication and methodical approach, he’s the one the shop turns to for complex diagnostics and tough repairs.

He also plays a key role in developing younger technicians, offering hands-on guidance and instruction aligned with manufacturer and ABYC standards.

Ryan leads by example—approaching every job with precision, patience, and a commitment to getting it right the first time.

Ryan has training and certifications from Universal Technical Institute, with an initial focus on automotive technology before transitioning into the marine industry; ABYC Marine Systems Certification, ABYC Diesel Engines Certification, and Ilmor Platinum Dealer Certification.

We are wishing Marine Technician, Sam, a big CONGRATULATIONS on being recognized by the American Boat & Yacht Council - ABYC for their New Achiever Award! Sam has been with Boyne Boat Yard for about a year now, and in that time has shown a tremendous amount of skill and a strong willingness to learn.

Sam is a graduate of both the Boat Building School and the Marine Technology program at the Marine Trades Institute in Cedarville, Michigan; an ABYC Master Technician (Marine Systems, Marine Electrical, Diesel Engines, and Gasoline Engines); and has training in custom inboard engine installation and Awlgrip finishing systems.

Sam also just passed his CDL exam last week from the FCG Truck Driver Training School!

Sam is an extraordinary young man, and we are lucky to have him as part of our team. Thank you for all that you do!

THE POSITION
We are seeking a Cosmetic Technician/Detailer to join our energetic, motivated team. In this role, you’ll be expected to contribute to high-quality marine service and cosmetic care of watercraft. From buffing and waxing to detailing and pressure washing, your work will help preserve and present our clients’ boats at the highest standard.

You don’t need years of experience—just a drive to learn, collaborate, and take ownership of your work. You’ll participate in daily huddles, contribute ideas, and support teammates in all aspects of boat yard operations. A passion for boats and a positive, team-oriented mindset are essential.

This is a full-time, year-round position with compensation starting between $18–$26/hour, based on experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Perform high-quality detailing: buffing, waxing, and cosmetic upkeep
• Pressure wash and prepare boats during fall haul-out
• Inspect, document, and report cosmetic blemishes
• Support winter storage prep and assist with paint & varnish projects
• Collaborate on developing and maintaining detailing schedules
• Maintain and organize tools for job site efficiency
• Uphold safety protocols and clean workspaces
• Execute tasks independently after proper training
• Participate in company huddles and planning meetings
• Generate leads and support summer cosmetic maintenance
• Demonstrate leadership in detailing and mentoring others
• Embrace continuous improvement and a can-do attitude
• Be flexible and willing to work occasional overtime (1.5x pay rate)

MARINE SERVICE YARD PROJECT MANAGER—BOYNE BOAT YARD, A VAN DAM COMPANY

THE POSITION—We’re hiring for a year-round, full-time Project Manager to oversee customer projects at a full-service marine yard. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, has a background in boating, hyper analytical, has excellent verbal communication skills, and is experienced with Excel. As a member of our team, you will be expected to be eager and ready to learn about our company operations and processes. We aim to provide the highest quality services to our customers; we don’t cut corners, and we always have a focus on customer service. Our team takes great pride in their work, and we’re looking for like-minded individuals. In this role, you will be expected to participate—in our daily and weekly huddles, in problem solving, in helping fellow teammates, and in communicating with customers. You will be expected to bring good energy, enthusiasm and tenacity every day. Active participation in everything from developing solutions for day-to-day challenges to the financials of the business and our monthly meetings is important and expected. Compensation range is $24-$36 per hour.

Delaney joined our team in June 2022 for a summer job and quickly discovered her passion for the boating industry. With a scholarship from Boyne Boat Yard and Van Dam Custom Boats, she attended and graduated from the Great Lakes Boat Building School (now the Marine Trades Institute) to further develop her skills.
