From bears emerging from hibernation to moose calves taking their first wobbly steps, this is the season when Alaska’s wildlife starts to reappear and reawaken. Rivers begin to flow, birds return north, and the landscapes come alive in ways you have to see to believe.

Meaning “the high one” or “the great one” in Koyukon Athabascan, Denali has carried that name for generations. It was officially restored in 2015 (because honestly… just look at it).

A 2025 executive order tried to bring back “Mount McKinley,” but some things are simply too iconic to rename.
