I'm excited to announce the second cohort of our Rail Equipment Repairer Trainee Program! If you're a recent technical school graduate looking to grow your skills with the MBTA, this is your chance.
Job Summary
The Rail Equipment Repairer Trainee will receive a mix of classroom and hands-on training to become proficient in electronic, electrical, and mechanical principles applied to rail cars. You'll learn to interpret technical publications, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist with inspections and repairs
- Perform scheduled overhauls and preventative maintenance
- Operate various tools and testing instruments
- Keep updated with MBTA's Safety Plan
- Respond to road failures and vehicle defects
- Document work in computerized systems
- Use measuring and test equipment for troubleshooting
- Drive to work sites for inspections and emergencies
- Write equipment reports and records
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
- Available to work all shifts and locations as assigned
- Able to work 24/7 during emergencies or severe weather
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent in Mechanical, Aviation, Diesel, or Automotive program
- English comprehension and communication skills
- Multi-tasking and time management skills
- Proficiency with software applications
- Ability to pass background checks, physical exams, and drug screenings
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
- At least 18 years old
Preferred Experience & Skills
- Vocational school graduate
- Technical training or military service
- Experience with high-tech vehicle or equipment repair
