As a family, a business, and members of our gorgeous community, we believe that no Mainer should go hungry.
When the Federal Government shut down, around 170,000 Mainers who rely on SNAP Benefits lost their ability to put food on their tables.
In our community alone, 281 HOUSEHOLDS (not people) do not have the ability to access their normal food resources.
Despite what people think — and everyone is entitled to their own opinion — we do not believe that millions should suffer because of what happens in Washington.
As a tight-knit community, the Boothbay Region has an inspiring way of showing up for each other when needed, and that is why we are announcing a SNAP Substitute Menu.
The SNAP Substitute Menu will allow SNAP recipients from our peninsula to come to the Whale's Tale once a week for a meal (no matter the family's size). The menu includes one appetizer, three entrees (pick one), a choice of coffee, tea, or soda, and, for dessert, a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
We are trying to do our part, and hopefully others do theirs. Whether you can donate to a food pantry, volunteer at a soup kitchen, or do more, now is the time to do it.
Please spread the word so those in need are aware of this resource. This service will begin when SNAP recipients would normally receive their benefits on November 10th.
