IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT -
After much debate, Terry and I have notified the City of Bonne Terre that we will be turning our Airport lease back to the City, effective 31 December.
I started the Airport project in 2013, and in that time we were able to get two Grants from MoDOT for runway improvements and new lighting to make it a 24 hour airport.
When we started there was only the runway (asphalt that we had to mow) and parking ramp. The first year we built the new office (FBO) building and the hangar building.
We have had a lot of memories there, including several Air Festivals/Balloon glows, and most important to us was our Wedding on the runway. (Windier than the devil that day).
There is a long list of folks who have helped us with this project, first and foremost is Steve Brust, (Ground Boss) who spent almost every weekend there helping me with the construction in the first year and our dear friend Jim White, (Air Boss) whom we lost in 2020. Also, a BIG Thank You to the City of Bonne Terre and the County Industrial Development, both of whom supported us throughout the years.
The City will continue to operate the airport with Mr. Reuben Naumann acting as the manager, so operationally nothing is changing, just without me being there.
Civil Air Patrol and the Mineral Area Modeling Association will still have a presence and meetings there.
Terry and I moved up to the Festus area back in February, so it became a bit impractical for us to continue. I’ve made it to 74 years old and Terry and I would like to travel more and enjoy our retirement.
To everyone who helped or came out to the events, we offer our heartfelt Thank You.
Here is a look back from the beginning, and along the way with mowing, Balloon Glow, our Wedding, Jim and his cheese balls, the runway lights and our little girl Runway who was dumped at the airport and became a part of our family. And of course, a sunset from the end of the runway.
Thanks again to all.....we appreciate you more than you can know.
