SLC is useful when the shipper loads, counts and seals the freight before the driver can verify what is inside. The notation records that the load/count information came from the shipper, which can matter later if the quantity or loading is disputed 🧾
Cargo securement obligations still apply. For a sealed load, FMCSA lists specific ways a carrier can satisfy the safe-loading requirement, including supervising the loading, getting written confirmation that it was properly loaded, or receiving permission to break the seal and inspect it 🔐

ELD records use the time zone of the driver’s home terminal. Local business records use the time where the stop actually happened. After crossing a time-zone boundary, those two clocks can legitimately show different hours for the same part of the trip 🕒
There is another detail around daylight saving time: the ELD’s UTC offset follows whether DST is currently in effect at the home terminal, not wherever the truck happens to be at that moment. That can matter when comparing log timestamps with outside records 📋

All 50 states have Move Over laws, but the vehicles covered depend on the state. In 19 states and Washington, DC, the protection extends to all stopped vehicles displaying flashing or hazard lights. That can include tow trucks, highway maintenance, utility vehicles and disabled vehicles 🚨
When you spot flashing lights ahead, identify the scene early and create room for a safe lane change. If moving over cannot be done safely, slow down according to the law in that state. The exact speed requirement varies by jurisdiction 🚛

Roadside inspection history appears on a driver’s PSP for three years, and violations can be recorded there even when no separate ticket was issued. After an inspection, check the report for the correct driver, carrier, vehicle and violation information 📄
If something is wrong, FMCSA’s DataQs system lets drivers request a formal review and attach supporting evidence. Court outcomes can matter too: a related citation that is later dismissed or found not guilty can be excluded from PSP and SMS after the result is submitted through DataQs 🔎

That matters most around narrow right turns, fuel islands, yard entrances and tight dock approaches. Watch the inside wheel path through the whole turn instead of judging clearance from the tractor alone. 🚚
