Move Over, Slow Down!
Please do your part to keep our drivers safe!

Today is Move Over, Slow Down Day, and we at the Big Bend Police Department want to remind everyone of a simple, crucial law that saves lives.

When you see emergency vehicles—like police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, highway workers, or tow trucks—stopped on the side of the road with their lights flashing, you need to MOVE OVER or SLOW DOWN.

What the Law Requires You to Do:

If you can safely do so, move into the lane away from the stopped emergency vehicle. This creates a safety buffer for emergency workers.

If you can't safely move over, or if the road only has one lane in your direction, you must slow down to a safe and reduced speed until completely past the incident.

Our officers, firefighters, paramedics, highway workers, and tow operators are working feet away from traffic, often in dangerous conditions, to keep you safe. Give them the room they need to do their jobs and make sure they get home to their families at the end of their shift.

It's not just a law—it's about respect and safety. Please do your part!
