To many, Memorial Day, the Federal U.S. holiday that takes place every year the last Monday in May, is just another excuse for a three day weekend. Memorial Day is also the unofficial start of Summer. However, the true meaning of Memorial Day goes far beyond barbecues and picnics.
The holiday began after the Civil War, and at the time was called “Decoration Day”. While it was originally founded to honor the soldiers who died in the Civil War, today the Memorial Day is a day to honor all the Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.
Patriotic Americans should take a moment from their day of celebration and leisure to reflect on those who gave their lives for this great nation. God bless America and God bless our our servicemen and women.
