Hello, friends.
Earlier this year, I created an LLC for my creative + cultural travel business. I just got around to updating it here on Facebook, so I changed my biz name officially to The Creative Nomad LLC.

I still do 1:1 creative coaching and lead sobriety support meetings + facilitate courses with The Luckiest Club. I also assist Laura McKowen with her courses and make art at Moonflower Studio in Berkeley, but travel is where my heart is at these days.

Mexico, specifically.

Ever since getting sober, I've been digging into my family history + my lineage in Mexico. I've been so drawn to the bright colors and the women artisans that make the folk art.

this spring 2024 collection was created last year, a few months after i joined the artist co-op, Moonflower Studio, in berkeley, ca. i was timid + shy about making art in front of eight other established + talented female artists. this series helped me get over that fear + dive into

i decided to embed words on the blank canvas + those words live on in the under-paintings. this process allowed me to just BEGIN. i also used pages from a japanese rice paper calendar for the numbers, as well as mixed media from various magazines, tissue paper, 8-pointed stars for their spiritual significance, acrylic paint + a cohesive color palette that included black + gold as a staple throughout this series.

this image of artist ruth asawa’s left hand has been on my mind ever since i visited her retrospective last month with a few rays from the .

the hand image keeps showing up for me in magazines + in life lately. I love when that happens. as i looked through my photos, i can clearly see it’s been present for me for years.

my friend uses her hand in her artwork, too! channeling tracy’s love of photocopying prompted me to play around with my copy machine today.

i’m definitely inspired to use images of my own hand in my mixed media + collage work going forward.

in 2014, i started making art at my kitchen table every morning that entire year.

this week, i went through that sketchbook + identified a theme running through it.

FAITH.

faith to keep making my daily entries.
faith to keep showing up for myself.
faith that my inner voice was guiding me.
where was it guiding me? i had no idea.
but i would keep at it.
more would be revealed.

11 years later, i can finally see what it all means.
my art.
my recovery from alcohol.
my list-making tendencies.
my spiritual connection to source; to god.

and how graciously you received them.
your friendship after my marriage ended.
the time we were able to spend
and get to know one another, again.

you will be forever missed on this earthly plane.
