"Working nine to five, ain't no way to make a living". Yep, Dolly!

Actually, she worked more than a 9 to 5 job. After Googling this woman, it turns out that, after raising and donating an estimated $600 million for numerous charities in her lifetime, at the time of her passing she was estimated to have a net worth between $450 to $650 million dollars. Hey, you think AI could have ballparked it a little bit better, but who's squabbling over a few hundred million?

RIP Dolly Parton. You were a great human being.

Also, did you know, although she did have real hair, she also had between 350 and 365 wigs? Apparently, it was a lot easier to put a wig on than to blow out that hair after a shower every morning.

Talking about a shower, I'm sure people on Air Asia flight 1516 this past week needed to shower after spending time, about 40 minutes next to a woman who pooped in her seat, with the bathroom 15 feet away. Now, I Googled this to try and find out some details, and lo and behold, this is not the first time something like this has happened on airplanes.

People, what's up? Taking your shoes off with no socks and your stinky feet on my armrest is one thing, but this!

Hey, we've had our share of cleanups at Perfect Limo, but usually from the stuff that comes out of your mouth after drinking too much alcohol. Never this crap! After all, wasn't that a major reason you hired a limousine, so you can go out on the town and let your hair down and hit the floor like John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever!

Since we're talking crazy people, what about the fanatics at stadiums? The other day there was a Las Vegas Raider fan who was getting a little out of control, yelling at everyone in sight, when eventually the stadium police came, yanked him out of his seat, and hauled him off to who knows where. What happened to just having a few beers, giving the rival fans a little grief, all in fun, and just enjoying the game?

A few years back, Doris and I were at a Giants game at MetLife Stadium. A few rows in front of us was a middle-aged blonde woman with her kids. We had no idea what transpired; I guess only the people in the general area knew what happened, but this woman got up and went off crazy, yelling at the guy in front of her. Security came down and hauled her butt away. There was another person who was with the children so they weren't left without any parental guidance. But we had no idea what set her off. Unfortunately, it got her yanked out of the stadium.

Me, I have my one beer, sausage and pepper sandwich, sit in my seat, cheer when we score, don't laugh, we do, goofy high fives to the other fans around me, then sit back down and enjoy the game, until we score again. Pretty simple, wouldn't you think?

Be safe.

I was watching Chicago Fire the other day. Actually, I've been watching more than the other day, because I'm doing the binge thing. I saw a scene where the fire trucks were flying down the street on their way to a fire. They were in front of a small sports car which was tailgating them, weaving in and out of traffic with the trucks. The Captain, said 'look at this guy riding the wave". Well, the wave broke and the young driver crashed badly getting seriously hurt.
I looked up the 'wave' phrase, but couldn't find an answer on that other than riding waves at the Big Sur. What I did find was a phrase of riding "The Wake". I guess it's similar. I mention this because of something I witnessed myself a few months back on River Road in West New York.
In my review mirror I could see an ambulance making it's way from a distance toward me and the other vehicles on River Road. We were about a half mile away from the hospital, which is where I imagine the ambulance was heading. In his 'wake' was a small black sports car following him around every vehicle. The ambulance kept hitting his horn, I would imagine to get the guy off his ass. It wasn't working.
As we were almost in front of the emergency room entrance, the ambulance did a funky move, pulling into the right lane then stopping the truck in the two lanes blocking not only the speeding sports car, but the rest of us.. The ambo driver got out, screaming for the the tailgater to stop. Nope, he drove over the sidewalk and took off at a tremendous speed.
Now, I have a camera in my vehicle, but it is only front facing, so the only action I had on film was the blocking of the road and the sidewalk thing. I got you covered big guy. Plate and everything. But, then a little later I thought about it. The ambulance driver was apparently transporting someone to the emergency room and here he is taking time out to try and pick a fight with some idiot. I personally didn't see this going in his favor. This is why they make delete buttons.
Wheeze, sneeze and gagging. What happened to me.
What is wrong with me? I know! It was strains of hair left behind from Tumblehair, which was rolling around NYC on August 12th. Could you imagine seeing a 10 foot tall giant hairball buzzing by Joe's Shanghai as I'm walking out with my dumplings. Doris would of had a fit because she can't stand to see little baby one inch dust balls under the bed. 10 foot, hairball! Where's the Dyson?
Tumblehair, is made of synthetic hair and it is a promotion for a company called K18Hair to promote a product to stop shedding hair. What happened to a good old billboard? That would be some accident report to fill out if you got 'tangled up' with the hairball!
Go Fighting Bees. Bayonne's Little League team won their first game in Williamsport, PA disguised as New Jersey, winning in dramatic fashion with a walk off home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Good to have a local team back in the spotlight.
Tonight, they play a team from West Chester, PA. Go Bee's. Let's keep this thing going. Last time a NJ team won it all was, Toms River East in 1998.

This morning, once again, I was watching Rosanna Scotto on Fox 5. There was a story about whether or not it is acceptable for men to wear shorts in the workplace. I missed the very beginning of the story, so I tried the back button on my remote to get to the start of the story. Yep, my technology finger wasn't working too well, and I wound up messing up the whole thing.

So, I Googled this story and got a number of responses. Turns out opinions vary, and even the Japanese are encouraging men in shorts, and they call it "The Cool Biz Shift".

But, if I remember correctly, watching the Sopranos, in the season four premiere, Carmine Lupertazzi tells Tony, "a don doesn't wear shorts". For those of you who know nothing about the mafia, don is the boss. Actually, the only way Carmine found out about this was because the little weasel, Johnny Sack, was invited to Tony's house for a barbeque and reported this short dilemma back to Carmine.

Since I was the boss at Perfect Limo, my wife, Doris always reminded me about my attire at work. One summer afternoon, I had to meet a chauffeur at Falcon Jet, which at the time had an office in Paramus. I forget the reason, but anyway, that was the one day I had shorts and flip flops on.

I was early and sitting in the lobby because it was hot outside. The President of Falcon comes walking through the lobby, catching me by surprise. I know he eyeballed me up and down in my t-shirt, shorts, and flip flops and asked, "John, you here for me?" Embarrassed, I hesitated for a second, and thank goodness the chauffeur pulled up to the front door.

Yep, busted, because I definitely wasn't dressing for success that afternoon!

Also, on the news was NASA rolling out a 20 billion dollar 'Moon Base Program', hoping to have a crew-ready outpost by the lunar south pole, which should be operational by 2032. Will they be allowed to bring their flip-flops? Did you watch the movie The Martian with Matt Damon? Yep, when I saw the NASA story, this was the first thing I thought about. And if you didn't watch it, you have to see it.

Now, I don't have a cat, but if you rely on technology to feed your furry little friend, specifically the automatic feeder manufactured by Petlibro, you may have come home to a hungry little buddy. Turns out there was a global server outage affecting these water and food dispensers yesterday. This could be a problem if your office was at the lunar south pole!

Be safe.

Being in the limousine business, I feel like we have always done our best to treat all customers to the highest quality service we could possibly provide. With that being said, I got a little complaint about NJ Transit as a passenger.

But this occurred roughly in the mid 1960's. The passenger was a 10-year-old little boy. Me! We presently live close to the area I grew up in, and I go past this bus stop whenever I go for gas.

This was in the days when it was okay for a 10-year-old (not sure of my exact age at the time) to travel by themselves from North Bergen to Jersey City on the #44 bus. You see, it came right by the corner of where we lived and arrived in JC at the corner of Paterson Plank Road and Palisade Ave, where Grandma Menge would be waiting for her favorite grandson. Hey, that's my opinion, and it was me making the trek, and besides, it's my story.

Now, this was in the days way before anything like GPS tracking and cameras and all the great tracking tools we have today at our disposal. So, when the 44 bus picked me up in the mid-morning at my corner, I waved goodbye to my Mom. I was the only passenger on the bus, and I had my choice of seating. Nothing like the 158, Fort Lee to NYC!

As we were making our way through North Bergen then into Guttenberg, the bus driver decided it was a good time to make a stop for breakfast. Being that his only passenger was a kid, I guess it was all right to make this unscheduled stop. Look, I have no clue how long he took; this happened some 60 years ago, and yes, it still is something I think about, obviously. The bottom line was, as I was looking out the window, he wasn't getting a bagel to go; he was sitting at the counter in the diner probably munching down some scrambled eggs and bacon.

Well, I eventually made it to JC to my Grandma, where we would have our traditional hot dog from the food truck parked on Palisades by the park. Always one of my favorite days until the bus driver didn't really give a crap about a customer service complaint coming from a 10-year-old!

If only there was GPS at the time, maybe I would have been to JC in time to run around in the playground before my dog.

When technology became so advanced, and we got away from the pager, we were blessed with a system called DriveCam. This was a camera that was attached to the windshield, which was a constant feed of what was happening outside and inside the vehicle. If an occurrence happened, it would trigger the camera and save 10 seconds before and 10 seconds after, whatever. The beauty of this was, you cannot make that first 10 seconds disappear. It was already locked in.

Imagine a chauffeur, like Kent, who was driving down the road and boom, he hits a pothole so hard, it sets off the camera, and the little green light turns to red. Let's just say Kent was having a cigarette, which is against company policy, when he hit that big bump. So, he thinks blowing smoke out of the side of his mouth out the window would be a sure way to cover up breaking policy. It was always comical seeing the chauffeur's reaction.

We had a chauffeur, Nick, real name; he was one of our favorite people, and if for any reason he set the camera off, his first reaction was to look at the camera and say something like, "frig you", only a little more vulgar. It did make me chuckle when I would review the film, and he is probably the only person who could get away with that. That was Nick! Miss you, big guy.

One more thing. You know how annoying those lantern flies can be, and you are always chasing after them to stomp on them. Or, what about that possum that you kept seeing running around the yard, that has suddenly disappeared? Then, you discover a 8 foot 40 pound Burmese python snake, stuck under your deck because it was so fat after having that possum for lunch, he couldn't get out.

Yes, this happened on Wednesday in Freehold NJ. The better question would be, where did the python come from?

Be safe.

"Space the final. These are the Voyagers of the Star Ship Enterprise".

Well actually, it will be the voyage of the Nancy Grace Roman Telescope, which in August will be hitchhiking a ride on top of a SpaceX ship. It is named after the "Mother" of the Hubble Telescope and will produce images so large, it will allow NASA to see parts of the universe we've never seen before. As reported by NBC News, Tom Costello.

Maybe, Mr. Spock is out there staring back at us.

This past Tuesday, weather was so bad that it delayed and canceled flights in and out of the Tri-State area. On top of that, it was reported that United Airlines had a technical issue that caused a nationwide flight stoppage. Being this is Friday morning, I like to Google what happened to make sure I get the right information.

Which now, I'm more confused, because the AI search, is reporting it was actually American Airlines that had the problem and It clearly puts the date in of July 28th, 2026. I have a screen shot of it to make sure I have my proof. The interesting part, is the search brought up technical issues from the past about other United issues, so this has happened before to them, which I guess then, it was alright to blame them!

Good news about flying. On that very same Tuesday morning, an Airbus 350-1000ULR, touched down in France after flying 12,460 nautical miles in 24 hours and 24 minutes from Australia. I thought about this, wondering what the heck do you do on an airplane for over 24 hours. I have a hard time sitting still on a flight from NJ to Florida.

Something else about that flight. Was that actual flight time? Because we all know how long it takes to board the plane, push away from the gate, get to the runway, etc. You can easily, on a good day, not Tuesday, add an extra hour onto that travel!

Now, this very same Tuesday, Doris and I went to a seminar in Montvale about AI and how it is in our lives and ways to invest in it. Self driving vehicles, robotic vacuums are some examples. Nextflix and Spotify use AI, whatever it really is, to study our watching and listening habits. So, it comes at us in different ways.

Look, I think it took over Google, because when I do a Google search now, it comes back as an AI Overview. How accurate is it. I'm not sure if I truly trust the answers, because the other day, after giving me an answer, it actually mentioned I need to confirm what I just read. With who? Yahoo!

One more thing. Did you read where Tony Romo got stopped for OWI, operating while intoxicated. What happened to the the good old DWI? Anyway, apparently, he crossed over the gore (not AL) section of the highway! What? I've been driving for roughly 55 years and this is the first time I ever heard of this. Tony said the same thing. This is the part of the highway that is painted with a lot of white lines forming a triangle when you are merging onto an expressway.

And all this time I thought that was there for the obnoxious drivers to go around the slow drivers. Oh, well.

Be safe.

It's over. Last Sunday was the final game of the World Cup with Spain edging out Argentina by one goal. Now, no more big signs on the NJ Turnpike warning us about traffic nightmares? I dont't think this traffic congestion ever happened because the powers to be did a good job of scaring us off the highways.

There are different articles written about whether or not the State of NJ lost or made money and when you Google, did NJ make money, some stories tell us about the money gained. But if you Google, did NJ lose money, there are articles relating to, yes we did. So, I really have no clue.

But, what I can tell you, is FIFA is selling squares of the pitch, the grass at Met Life, for $450 per square. Hey, that belongs to Jersey!

I was looking out at my backyard after reading about the grass sell off and thinking about how I had to pay to remove my grass and replace it with rocks.

For some crazy reason, I thought of our neighbor at the diner, next to the Octagon House back in mid nineties. I don't even know how I wandered from a beautiful summer day to thoughts of winter!

One night in a blizzard, I saw the owner, shoveling snow in his parking lot, which probably was a lot large enough to fit about 30 cars. One person, one shovel in the freezing cold trying to remove snow that was at least a foot high. I had just got done doing our lot at Perfect Limo, not with a shovel, but with my Jeep and snowplow. Heck of a lot easier.

I drove into his lot and starting pushing snow. I did a pretty good job in about 15 minutes and I felt good and ready to head home. Then he asked, can you do this? Can you move that? How about over here?

You've got to kidding me? I got to go. But, me being me, I answered most of his requests, even though it was late and I was ready to sleep. Before, I left, he did request I come by the next day for lunch. I never did, because I was never a fan of the diner, but in kindness he sent over food for everyone in our office. Good man.

So, Sunday, July 26th is Doris and I anniversary, 46 years. I'm sought of running out of ideas for gifts, so this year we are heading to NYC to see a play and dinner which is always fun. But not just any play. Music City the Musical is new and an off Broadway show. It is at the St. Luke's Theater, which is actually a theater in the basement of the church with the same name.

I was trying to purchase tickets online, but had a hard time trying to figure out the seating arrangement, it was far from the normal row seating you have in all the big name Broadway shows. I decided it would be best to visit the box office to get a better idea of where to sit.

Wednesday, I headed to the theater to find a locked gate. No way in. After wandering around the area for about 10 to 15 minutes, two guys showed up at the front of the theater. I went over to talk to them and as it turns out, one of the guys was JT Harding, the song and lyric writer for the play. He was a great guy. Took me in to show me around and made suggestions about where to seat.

The theater is set up as a bar like you would find in Nashville, which the story is about. I'm looking forward to Sunday even though it's nothing typical of a Broadway show, but should be a real good time.

Be safe.

Get ready for the madness on Sunday anywhere near MetLife Stadium. Argentina will be looking to win back-to-back World Cups against Spain, who beat France in the semifinals, who, by the way, were favored to win it all. Tant p*s!

Don't get in a tizzy, it means 'oh well'.

To tell you how difficult this back-to-back is, it has only happened two other times. Italy, 1934, 1938, and Brazil in 1958, 1962. Some pretty rarefied air!

These Argentina fans are all over. I was in Hoboken after the game Wednesday afternoon, and the fans, all dressed in their traditional light blue and white jerseys, were parading around First Ave by the bars. Cars were honking horns in celebration. Me? I was trying to pay the meter by my Park Mobile app. I needed to concentrate. Look, I once paid with the app, but chose the wrong license plate and wound up getting a $50 ticket on top of my parking fee. You know how I feel about that.

"Tant p*s."

What I don't understand about the traffic they keep talking about is that no one is allowed to drive to the stadium. The only way to access the arena is by mass transit. So what, are people just going to drive there to say they were detoured away from what? A highway.

Argentina, by the way, beat England, whom I was pulling for because we met a guy on our trip to Greece last year who sort of looked like Harry Kane. Well, at least I thought he did. And, are you ready for this? His name was Tom Jones. Yeah, pretty cool, right? And he sang karaoke! You got it, "My, my, my Delilah". He and his wife were great people.

Sounds like a pretty silly reason, right? Because I'm finding out how hard it is to bet against Lionel Messi and his teammates.

Since we are talking about England, on July 10th, I'm a little upset my bald head wasn't invited to London to be part of Pit Bulls' latex bald head get-together to beat the Guinness World Record of, how stupid is this, the latex plastic bald head challenge. Anyway, they got the record.

Now, if I did go, I would have to take my authorized-sized carry-on luggage. Yep, finally, these ridiculous bags that people try to pass as a carry-on will now be stopped by TSA screeners, because the new machines that do 3D images can only fit a bag measuring 22x14x9. About freaking time.

Get ready New Jersey. Sunday, all eyes will be on us. If you are lucky enough to be attending the game, don't hesitate to call your local limousine service. Most of us, though, will be in search of a watch party.

One more thing. Since the World Cup started about a month ago, I've been struggling with the announcers and all the new phrases I've had to learn for this Football lover, not a Futbol fanatic.

Give me Tony Romo and his "this is the biggest play of the game".

Be safe.

USMNT, USA soccer team, didn't look too good Monday in our loss to Belgium. That hurt. Before you know it though, it will 2030 and we will ready for the next World Cup somewhere over there, in another part of the world.

Something new I heard last week which I never remember hearing, but I am getting older, is "Bridge and Tunnel". This is a New York City slang term to describe suburbanites from the outer boroughs and NJ who make their way into NYC for work and the nightlife. Now, if I take the ferry, what I am now?

Apparently though, this phrase started in the 1970's and it is basically stereotyping people from outside the city as not being 'chic'. But, who cares how goofy I look on the dance floor of Studio 54, as long as I'm dropping my Benjamins at the clubs.

Which brings me to another slang that I am working hard to erase. Bennie! Not Benny Hill! (the English comedian) For many years we had a home down the Jersey Shore, first in Toms River, then in Point Pleasant Beach, which we presently occupy.

Well, a Bennie, if I'm spelling it correctly, are people whose primary homes are in the Northern NJ and NYC area, that come to the shore between May, the unofficial start of summer, to Labor Day weekend. Bennies come down here, crowd the beaches, restaurants, bars and roadways and make life difficult for the locals. My lord, how outrageous!

Now, I'm sure this is not business owner making these, "oh great the Bennies are here" sarcastic smirks, because I Googled what these horrible people spend in a given summer and it is estimated to be $9.17 billion in Monmouth and Ocean Counties alone. Lose the attitude people.

For me and Doris, we are spending more time in PPB in hopes of losing that Bennie stigma and complain about people who park in front of my house. But, I will tell you this. PPB, gives overnight parking passes, so what most people do, myself included, is either late at night or early AM, the locals park in the spots by our homes, slap that placard in the window and gobble up all the parking spots, which force them Bennies to pay $40 to park in a pay lot. Hey, we need .17 to be 18.

One more thought about NYC. Mayor Mandami created a map, "NYC Immigrant Enclaves" as part of guide for tourism for the people coming in for the World Cup. Pretty cool to see all the different areas and I guess if your looking for your favorite food, just pop out the map and it saves a lot of time not having to ask people in the hotel lobby.

A slight problem though. If you're looking for some Italian food, you better hope your cab driver knows where Little Italy is, because it is not on the map. Wow, are the creators of the map not into some spaghetti and meatballs with plenty of garlic.

Hey, I'm sure the "B&T" and "Bennies" know where Mulberry Street is. Also, the San Gennaro Feast, which will be celebrating the 100th Anniversary will be starting on September 17th. Get them hot zepp's ready!

Be safe.

"Take me home, country road, take me home".

Go USMNT. On Wednesday night, America's soccer team moved on to the round of 16 to face Belgium after beating Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0. It wasn't easy after one of the stars got a red flag, which was very questionable, and was ejected from the game. The US had to play the final 31 minutes plus 10 minutes of stoppage time with only 10 players against 11.

So, to see them celebrating in the stadium, singing John Denver's song along with the fans, was fabulous. On to Seattle to take on the Belgians on Monday.

Okay, other big news today is the "Wedding". Is this all a smoke screen from Taylor and Travis about a wedding at Madison Square Garden? I can't really tell because I spilled coffee on the watermark on my invitation, and the best I can make out is it will be in Middle Village, Queens.

With all the festivities going on with the Fourth of July, why in the world would they decide this is the ideal time for a wedding in NYC? Last night, Thursday, though, was, I guess, the rehearsal party where only about 100 people were partying in tents outside the Garden. Now, that's the party if you're a somebody!

Well, it's here, for all of us other people not invited to the 'wedding'. America is celebrating 250 years. Big celebrations for the holiday, but basically, the whole year, there is stuff to do to enjoy the moment.

Think about this for a second. I remember when the Fourth of July, 1976, was the party. Crap, that was how long ago! I do remember it, though. That is the year I first started dating my beautiful bride.

In 1976, I lived in North Bergen but hung out in Guttenberg right down the block from the Galaxy Towers. There was a huge party in the towers, and I happened to run into some people who gave me a pass to get into the building. In I went, only to be tossed out on my ass before I got on the elevators! What gave it away, the T-shirt and flip flops?

Now, 2026, I live in a building in West New York, just past the Galaxy Towers. Deciding if I want to be in the building or with friends at the Jersey Shore, the decision was made when we were given notice that Port Imperial Blvd would be shut down from 10 AM on the Fourth. No exceptions! No, "but I live here". Closed to all. Even the workers in the building need to find a way to get to work. The only way to go out is to do like our forefathers did. Walk.

The good news about the lockdown is I wouldn't be tempted to try and sneak out and head to Nathan's Hot Dog in Coney Island to take on 17-time champ Joey Chestnut in the famous Nathan's Hot Dog eating contest. I didn't think he would be there tomorrow, because he is presently in Indiana on an 180-day probation because of a misdemeanor felony charge. Some judge, though, signed off on him making the trip to compete in the contest. Just when I thought I had a chance.

How you doing with all this heat? I enjoy it myself. After all, we complain all winter about the cold, then when the heat is here, what do we do? "Oh, I love Spring".

With this thinking in mind, I was in Lowe's on Wednesday, you know, 100 degrees. I was checking out at the garden center cashier, which is outdoors. An older woman was at the register, and she wasn't the most pleasant worker at Lowe's. I figured it was the heat that was making her act a little curt. Enjoy the weekend, and don't forget to cheer like heck on Monday for our Team.

Be safe.
