Thanks for Keeping the Lights On!
Truckers 🛻 & Electricity💡----- Until I heard from Greg Athey I never gave thought to those two being connected. But with an in-depth conversation and Greg's patience through my Q & A, I soon learned how much the ice build-up on the Ohio River is affecting the transport of goods.
In person, and through posted photos 📸 and videos 📹, we've seen how much the abnormally low temperatures🌡are affecting our rivers. Not since the 70s have we seen as much ice as we do now.
Pushing through the mountains of ice is not the only challenge for barges. According to Greg,
"So much ice builds up along the banks.....when they try loading them they get stuck on the bottom and the tugs can't break them free. They sink the more weight that is added....... resulting in them getting stuck on the bottom and in the ice."
Because loading barges along an ice-filled-river-bank presents such a huge challenge,
"truckers of the mov and out of state guys [(are)] feeding pleasant power station during the river issues with the barges moving coal".
In other words if not for the truckers
🛻 taking the place of barges, the Pleasant Power Station wouldn't be receiving the coal needed to supply electric to "12 different states and Washington DC".
WE - OHIO - are one of those states!
Please join me in giving a shout-out - our thanks - to those truckers who are hauling coal to the Pleasant Power Station. We appreciate you.
