After traveling Laura and her husband Steve moved back to Bellingham. “I knew I wanted to start up my own business, and was surprised that Bellingham, being a bike friendly and environmentally minded town, did not have a bike courier service.” Bellingham seemed like an ideal place to start a green business. Mad Dash opened for business Earth Day, 1992. After a year of perserverance and marketing door to door Mad Dash had enough customers to hire an additional rider. Twenty seven years later Mad Dash is still providing year-round bike deliveries throughout Bellingham; promoting one less car on the road. Your sustainable, local, small and women owned business. Henkel began Mad Dash with the idea that it would be an on-call delivery service, but this changed as niches began to emerge. “A business would call asking for a particular service such as Post Office Box pick-up and we realized an opportunity and capitalized on it.” Mad Dash then added Post Office Box pick-up to their portfolio of deliveries offered. “All of our specialized services are a result of a customer request.” Mad Dash still has on-call service but the majority of the business is contract based. Mad Dash specialized services include PO Box pickup, Outgoing Mail, Bank Deposits, Interoffice Deliveries and Real Estate Flyer Distribution. LAURA’S THOUGHTS ON CUSTOMER SERVICE

What I enjoy most about Mad Dash is the fun interaction I have with people. People are what have kept me pedaling for so long. Mad Dash is a feel good business for all involved. Dear friends of Mad Dash,

What a ride! It has been 30 years since I rolled out Mad Dash Couriers on Earth Day, 1992. We’ve been delivering carbon-free ever since and have pedaled 8 times around planet earth!

Today was my last day in the saddle. The time is right. I am honored to have been supported by many in the community for over 30 years. Thank for your smiles, enthusiasm, interest, stories, high-fives, WOOTS and friendship over the years. It is a bittersweet moment.

Maddash celebrated 30 years of pedaling around Bellingham yesterday Earth day. We have been busy helping our oldest son Ben set up his base camp for Kayak Tours on San Juan Island a company that’s been operating out of Friday Harbor for 30 years. He is in his second year of operation. The path less chosen and not always the easiest but follows the heart.

Maddash celebrated its 30th year in business yesterday on Earth Day. We have been very busy helping our oldest son Ben on San Juan island who recently took ownership of a kayak guiding service operating for 30 years out of Friday Harbor. So cheers to that.
