Misty Blue Yonder

We are so excited to see, Nick & Janelle, the new owners, of Misty Blue Yonder launch their page. (MBY Charters LLC). It truly makes our hearts happy. ⛵

While it was bittersweet to sell MBY, we knew the time had come in order for us to move into our next adventure. One of the greatest blessings in that transition was seeing this wonderful family become her new stewards. Knowing she is in the hands of people who truly care for her means the world to us.

They didn’t just buy MBY to run a business—they have a genuine love for sailing and a deep desire to create beautiful memories with their family, friends & for their Charter Guests aboard her. That kind of passion is exactly what Misty Blue Yonder deserves. 💙

Please take a moment to like and share their page, and continue supporting these amazing people as they begin their own journey with MBY.

It is with bittersweet hearts and deep emotion that we make this announcement. There’s a saying that the two happiest days in a boat owner’s life are the day they buy the boat and the day they sell it. In our case, that simply isn’t true. Misty Blue Yonder has carried us to the end of one beautiful chapter—and toward the hopeful beginning of another.
The work, the yoga, the love
For 6½ unforgettable years, we have poured ourselves into this boat—hours of hard work doing upgrades, troubleshooting, and full on “boat yoga” in every hidden locker and impossible corner. And yes, everyone’s favorite job: unclogging heads and macerators. In learning her systems inside and out, she taught us patience, problem solving, and the quiet joy of a project finally done right. Every improvement was a love letter to the adventures we were living and the ones we still dreamed she would make possible.
A life under her sails
From a winter stay in South Sound and Tacoma to bashing north through the Strait of Georgia, Misty Blue Yonder has been our companion in every kind of water and weather. She has carried us throughout the San Juan Islands and beyond. Spending a month heading into the wild beauty of Desolation Sound, the Broughton Archipelago, and the rugged Vancouver Island coast. In winds over 40 knots, she kept us safe and steady, and in quiet coves she gave us a front row seat to sunsets, still anchorages, and countless memories with friends and family. Her charter guests have felt that same magic under her sails, and it shows in every smile that steps off her decks.
Passing the helm
We were not planning on selling her, but this is the right time if we are to continue on to our next adventure.
Today, we’re happy to announce that Misty Blue Yonder is passing into the capable hands of Nick and Janelle Logan, owners of MBY Charters. They will carry her story forward with their own energy, ongoing care, and future upgrades. We truly could not imagine better stewards for her next chapter, and MBY will be fortunate to have them at the heart of her adventures. Knowing she is in such good hands, we pass the helm with gratitude rather than grief.
Gratitude to her community
To everyone who followed our journeys, shared a dock or an anchorage, sailed alongside her in flotillas, or simply stopped by to say hello on the dock—thank you. You are woven into Misty Blue Yonder’s story as surely as we are, and your company turned miles into memories. As Nick and Janelle take her onward, we hope you’ll cross wakes with her again and add your own pages to her logbook.
Fair winds, not goodbye
“Fair winds and following seas” is more than a saying; it is the mariner’s blessing for safe travels and kind conditions on whatever comes next. So fair winds and following seas to Misty Blue Yonder and her new crew—this is a farewell to our chapter of ownership, not to the spirit of adventure that she awakened in us. We look forward to the day we step aboard her again, and in the meantime, we turn our eyes toward preparing for the next voyage, hopefully on another sailboat that will carry us even farther beyond these familiar waters.

She sails confidently in light winds of 4–5 knots and handles conditions well above 30 knots (ask us how we know 😊). Properly trimmed, she reaches speeds of up to 9.7 knots with ease.
As we approach retirement, it is with mixed emotions that we pass her on to new hands, as we prepare for our next adventure. She is fully equipped for extended off-grid cruising with lithium power, solar, Starlink internet, and all the modern comforts. Sailing & Yachting Opportunity

Have you been looking for an opportunity to experience life aboard a sailboat, or to enhance your sailing & cruising skills? Whether you are new or an experienced sailor, join us for a sailing adventure aboard Misty Blue Yonder, as we head to the pristine Broughton Islands Archipelago. The Broughton Islands are adjacent to the Northeast coast of Vancouver Island. This area is an expanse of natural beauty, towering snowcapped mountains, national parks, secluded anchorages, marinas & villages. Embrace life “off the grid,” away from the hectic, modern world. Specific destinations are yet to be determined, but we anticipate exploring both the popular spots and some more out of the way anchorages. We will be part of a flotilla of power and sailing vessels, so there will be lots of opportunity for socialization and comradery.

Sailing dates are May 22 to June 21, 2024 and we currently have two cabins available. Unable to get away for the whole time? We’ve split the trip into three legs, allowing you to choose one or all three.

Leg 1: May 21 to May 29th: Leave Bellingham, WA and travel up the coastline to Port McNeil, CA in approximate 8-10 days. This leg will see 6+ hour, 25-40+ nm days to make the 250 nautical miles. This leg provides excellent opportunities to practice sailing skills, anchoring, navigation and planning for tidal rapids.
Leg 2: May 31st to June 13th. Leave Port McNeil and head into the Broughton’s area. (There are plenty of Information on the web, a few links below.) This leg provides opportunities to practice sailing skills, navigation, management of vessel systems, docking & anchoring in remote areas.

Leg 3: June 15th to June 21st. Pt. McNeil, Canada to Bellingham, WA. This leg will see 6-8 hour, 40-50+ nm days to make the 250 nautical miles in approximately 6-8 days. This leg provides excellent opportunities to practice sailing skills, anchoring, navigation and planning for tidal rapids.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience and/or improve your sailing/cruising skills. Active participation is important; everyone aboard is expected to participate in the day-to-day running of the boat, to the extent that their skill level and knowledge allows. You’ll practice skills including charting & navigation, helm control, trimming sails, setting anchor or handling lines during docking, navigating through various weather conditions, currents, and management of vessel systems.
Pacific NW weather during May/June can vary, so plan to bring foul weather gear. We do have a full enclosure for the cockpit, which keeps it warm during cold, sunny days.

A passports or enhanced driver’s license is required to clear customs into Canada.

For further information, including cost. Please send Etjen or me a private message.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
