I couldn't take my eyes off this couple in front of me today.
I know it's weird and sounds a bit strange, but it's true.
I don't normally post in real time from my trips because they are so busy and I need the time to decompress. But this experience really made me stop and I had to share it.
We were sitting at a short piano concert of Chopin in Mallorca, in the place where this genius stayed and made his life while on the island.
As the concert was beginning, this couple sat down just in front of us. They sat in the way couples do: holding hands, her body angled towards his from her knees to her shoulders.
The pianist was exceptional, and when he began, she turned her head, directly in front of me, to smile at her partner. And it was a smile of exceptionally raw and pure joy. As the music started, it was obvious that she was either a talented pianist herself, or a student / lover of classical music.
It was in the sway of her head as the music played. It was in the way she closed her eyes and you could see her physically feeling the moment(s). It was the moments she was nodding along to the music.
But what struck me on every level was the way she could not stop smiling. Her smile danced in her eyes, it lit up her whole face, and she couldn't stop sharing it with him, turning her head every few minutes to smile so brightly I literally couldn't take my eyes off of her! She even shared her blissful smile with me when she caught me staring, as she wiped tears from her eyes.
This isn't a post about a love story. Or maybe it is, but not in the traditional sense.
It's a story about a moment that clearly held such significance, such incredible meaning, that the awe, wonder, and pure, unfiltered joy in her body radiated so loudly I could feel it from behind. I could see it, and share in it, for just a moment.
And isn't that what amazing moments in travel do? They dig deep, they touch your soul, they thrust you into a instant of such pure emotion that there's nothing you can do but feel it so profoundly it moves you to tears.
I LIVE for these moments and I LIVE for our clients to have these moments, too. I'm so grateful for this work and for all of you ❤️
