Summertime is finally here.
There is something special about that quiet, peaceful ride home when all the wheels finally stop rolling. The radios go silent, the lots begin to empty, and the last student has been dropped off safely. Another school year has come and gone, and as we close this chapter, it gives us all a moment to reflect on what it truly took to get here.
This year was not easy.
Behind every bus route was a thousand moving parts. There were early mornings and late afternoons filled with routing changes, bus breakdowns, impossible schedules, last-minute coverage, upset parents who only wanted the best for their children, and the daily challenge of making sure every student arrived safely to and from school. There were days when it felt like there simply were not enough seats, enough drivers, enough hours in the day, or enough energy left to give.
Yet somehow, every single day, this team found a way.
We balanced the hustle and bustle of planning while trying our best not to overwork the dedicated employees who showed up day after day. We worked through frustrations, disagreements, stress, and exhaustion. We dealt with schools, offices, deadlines, emergencies, and everything in between. Some days tested us mentally, physically, and emotionally. But through it all, the mission never changed — getting our students home safely.
And that is exactly what we did.
That success does not happen because of luck. It happens because of people. People who care. People who sacrifice. People who continue showing up even on the hardest days. It happens because of drivers who push through difficult routes, attendants who care for students with compassion, office staff who keep things moving behind the scenes, mechanics who keep buses on the road, and every single person who played a role in making this year successful.
I could not be more proud of Area 9 and the entire Transportation Department.
What we do matters. Every route covered, every student safely delivered, every problem solved — those things matter more than most people will ever realize. Transportation is often the first face students see in the morning and the last one they see before going home. That responsibility is enormous, and this team carried it with strength and dedication all year long.
Now, as summer begins, it is finally time to slow down for a moment. Time to reflect on what we accomplished together. Time to recharge, reconnect with family, laugh a little more, sleep a little later, and breathe a little deeper.
You earned it.
Thank you for your hard work, your patience, your sacrifices, and your commitment throughout this entire school year. Thank you for continuing to give your best even when the days were long and the challenges felt overwhelming.
Summer is here.
Take this time to rest, reflect, and be proud of everything you accomplished. Because at the end of the day, through every challenge and every obstacle, we got the job done together — and most importantly, we got our students home safely.
Have a safe and blessed summer.
