Commemorating a Hero’s Final Flight

Flotilla Barnegat Light joins the Coast Guard family in honoring AST2 Tyler Jaggers. Yesterday, following ceremonies at Joint Base Lewis‑McChord and Joint Base Andrews, the Ceremonial Honor Guard received his casket and rendered honors in the presence of senior leaders, shipmates, and loved ones.

AST2 Jaggers exemplified the highest standards of our Service and the Aviation Rescue Swimmer community. As we mark his final flight, we honor his courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to saving others.

⚖️ SHIP STABILITY QUIZ 🌊

Ship stability is critical for safe navigation and cargo handling. The relationship between center of gravity (G) and center of buoyancy (B) determines how stable a vessel is.

When a ship tilts, the buoyancy force creates a righting moment that brings the ship back upright. The vertical distance between G and the metacenter (M) is called Metacentric Height (GM) – a key stability indicator.

A positive GM means the ship will return to upright position. A negative GM spells danger!

What is the vertical distance between the center of gravity and the center of buoyancy called?

A) Metacentric Height (GM)
B) Draft
C) Freeboard
D) Displacement

Volunteer for the 2026 National Recreational Boating Safety Survey

The National Recreational Boating Safety Survey (NRBSS) is a nationwide study sponsored by the U.S. Coast Guard that helps measure how many people go boating, the types of boats they use, and how often they spend time on the water.

We are currently seeking volunteers to support this effort. Volunteers are asked to complete a brief sign-up form that collects basic information about their boating habits and contact details. This information will be shared with the U.S. Coast Guard to ensure a diverse group of boaters can be invited to participate in the full NRBSS survey later this year.

Flotilla Barnegat Light – Staying Prepared for the 2026 Hurricane Season

As part of our commitment to keeping our coastal community informed and ready, Flotilla Barnegat Light is sharing important updates from the National Hurricane Center. These new tools are designed to improve awareness, strengthen preparedness, and help residents—both along the shore and inland—better understand evolving storm risks.

The National Hurricane Center is rolling out two new products for the 2026 hurricane season!

New Hurricane Track Cone: The operational cone map will now include inland U.S. tropical storm and hurricane watches and warnings. This helps inland communities stay vigilant against wind hazards.

New Storm Surge Alerts: Hawaii will now receive new storm surge watches and warnings.

To learn more about the product improvements for the 2026 hurricane season check out the full report here: https://www.noaa.gov/news-release/national-hurricane-center-to-issue-new-forecast-cone-graphics-for-2026-hurricane-sea
