A new connection has arrived at BGR! ✈️

This week, our newest passenger boarding bridge officially took its place at Gate 11. While the bridge isn't quite ready for passenger use just yet, seeing it installed marks a major milestone in a project that's been years in the making.

A few fun jet bridge facts:

🔹 Passenger boarding bridges (often called "jet bridges") first became common in airports during the 1960s, helping travelers board aircraft safely and comfortably without stepping onto the ramp.

🔹 A modern jet bridge can extend, retract, raise, lower, and pivot to connect with a variety of aircraft types.

🔹 Every aircraft parks slightly differently, which means operators carefully position the bridge to align with the aircraft door while maintaining strict safety clearances.

🔹 Jet bridges aren't just for convenience, they improve accessibility, provide protection from Maine weather, and help create a safer boarding experience for passengers and airline crews alike.

Projects like this don't happen overnight, and they certainly don't happen alone. A huge thank you to the team of partners who helped bring this project from concept to reality:

Episode6️⃣of On The Fly has been cleared for takeoff!

Ever wonder who answers the call when something unexpected happens at the airport? In this week's episode, we're sitting down with BGR Interim Chief Dispatcher Leif Feige to pull back the curtain on one of the airport's most important, and least visible, teams.

From aircraft emergencies and medical calls to unruly passengers and everything in between, our dispatchers are often the first people setting a response in motion. Working around the clock with a small but mighty crew, they serve as the eyes, ears, and communication hub of Bangor International Airport.

We'll also tackle some of aviation's famous "alphabet soup," breaking down the phonetic alphabet and helping translate some of the aviation jargon that leaves many non-pilots wondering what on earth everyone is talking about. (Hint: BGR sounds a lot different when you're speaking aviation.)

No two days are the same in Airport Dispatch, and Leif shares what it's like making critical decisions in real time when every second counts. You may have heard our dispatchers on the radio or over the phone, but now you'll get the chance to meet one of the people helping keep BGR running safely every day.

At Bangor International Airport, we are deeply connected to the legacy of military service. For decades, this airfield has stood as a place of departures, reunions, homecomings, and heartfelt goodbyes for those who wear the uniform of our country.

This weekend, we pause to honor the fallen, reflect on the cost of freedom, and express our enduring gratitude to the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.
