Prior to National Maritime Day on May 22, an annual event in Baltimore included tours of historic ships and a ceremony onboard the N/S Savannah. Vane Brothers was proud to have a tug among the participating vessels.

Vane Brothers was proud to be among the sponsors of the May 14 "Legacy & Horizons" ceremony, featuring a rededication of the PRIDE OF BALTIMORE II and a memorial observance marking 40 years since the loss of the original PRIDE OF BALTIMORE. Vane Brothers Regional Health-Safety-Environmental Manager Matt Frank, a former Deckhand aboard PRIDE II, was among the attendees at the event, which featured remarks by Capt. Jan Miles (Exec. Dir. of PRIDE II) and Scott Jeffrey, who was a crewmember on the PRIDE in May 1986. A memorial wreath was placed in the water in remembrance of the four PRIDE crewmembers lost.

Vane Brothers Health-Safety-Environmental Manager John Shkor joined other Port of Baltimore participants supporting the Chesapeake Bay Foundation by planting juvenile oysters (known as spat) this morning at a sanctuary reef alongside Fort Carroll. Oysters act as natural filter feeders to keep waterways healthy.

The group planted approximately 19,000 oysters, with more than 8,000 of them having been grown in cages alongside Vane Brothers' HQ.
