My team and I spent the better part of yesterday collecting our signs from polling places around the district and repurposing them as a thank you note to all of you who had that radical hope to believe, to stand up, and to show up.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank all of you. That includes those who also voted for Ferguson. In the end, we’re all neighbors. Just glad we had the opportunity to get out there and vote as a community.

What does tomorrow hold? I’m not sure yet. But, I’m not going anywhere anytime soon. I’ll be right here spreading Baltimore love like I always have.

Note To The City: I’ll keep the thank you notes up till Saturday morning before collecting them and sending them out to be recycled. Please don’t fine me. Haha

We built something, you and me. Something that can’t go away.

A couple of hours ago, I conceded the race for State Senate in Baltimore. Nearly 44% of voters stood up against $1.5 million in corporate money and said: we see you. We see what’s happening. And we’re not okay with it.

That doesn’t disappear. That lives in every door knocked, every conversation had, every neighbor who looked another neighbor in the eye and said this matters.

This was never about me. It was always about you.

Thank you for being you. Tonight, that’s all I’ve got. Thank you. For being you. For showing up. For believing that people — JUST PEOPLE — no PACs, no corporations, no machine — could move a mountain.

We moved it. Maybe not all the way. But it moved.

One battle lost doesn’t stop a movement. It fuels every battle yet to come.

Power to the people. Today, tomorrow, and always. 💛✊

Wayne Pacelle is the president of Animal Wellness Action, and the Center for a Humane Economy, a nonprofit that urges businesses to adopt animal-friendly practices across their supply chains and operations. He has been a transformative figure in the animal protection movement. Hundreds of thousands of animals are alive and safe today because of Wayne, is organizations, and his many volunteers. Especially the beagles of Ridglan Farms.

I'm super honored to have his friendship and support in Baltimore as we battle a corporate-backed politician with a shaky animal rights record.

161 years after freedom finally arrived in Texas, voting rights were gutted by the Supreme Court last month while some politicians stood on the side and simply watched. That's unacceptable!

The system has never stopped making people fight for rights they already earned. But, the people won't be silenced. Every generation, the people rise. The people march. The people vote.

That's why I'm running. That's why this Tuesday matters so much. The status quo Democratic Party is broken, the only way to fix it is to elect better Democrats.

Happy Freedom Day, Baltimore.
