It’s hard to quantify the importance much less the beauty and pure joy that is the musical legacy of Burt Bacharach. It will live on in the hearts of all of us who grew up in the 60’s and 70’s, and no doubt, inspire this world with “Love Sweet Love” for generations to come.

These photos are single-handedly one of the most important photos of our depot in our collections. Frankie Crow was a long time employee of the Texas and Pacific Railway, working as a general clerk and a dispatcher in the Baird depot. The first photo of Frankie is him at his desk working his last shift before closing the depot on December 20, 1975. On that Saturday at 3:00 PM, the depot would finally close for good, ending an era of railroading in Baird, Texas. The depot would be donated by the Missouri Pacific Railroad to the City of Baird on December 19, 1977. Frankie would go on to work in Abilene for a time before retiring and passing away in 1986. Photographs are part of the Frankie Crow Collection, donated by his family, located in our archives.

Here is a old postcard photo scene of the Texas and Pacific Baird Yard from back in the day. This was taken before 1911, as the old wooden depot stands, but the two story brick depot has not been build yet. In the image we can obviously see two strings of cars, as well as part of the wooden depot just to the right of the center of the photo. To the far right, we can also spot one of the large water tanks made of cypress wood, located near the roundhouse.
This photo is part of the Tom Ivey Collection, located in our archives at the Baird depot.

Here is a little progress update on reorganizing our collections at the depot. Today, I (William Tollett) and Corrender Taylor managed to get more items into chemical free boxes and name every box. Many of the boxes are labeled "miscellaneous" as they either don't have a donor listed or there are multiple donors listed. The larger collections (Such as the "Frankie Crow Collection") have their own boxes. With each box listed in alphabetical order, we can start labeling what is in each box on index cards. This is just about over half our collection, so we still have plenty more work to do to get all of our smaller items into boxes. Thank you Corrender for the assistance in labeling the boxes today!
