Start the week with a look inside your saddle bag. If it's empty, or you don't have one, here's the short list that gets most riders home:

1. A spare tube in the right size for your tire
2. Two tire levers
3. A mini pump or CO2 inflator
4. A multi-tool with the hex sizes your bike uses
5. Your phone, ID, and a little cash

It all fits in a bag smaller than a sandwich. Check the spare tube now and then, since one that has bounced around for two years can have a hole of its own.

For anything the bag can't handle, we come to you. Book at atxbikerepair.com or call 512.424.9638. Every appointment includes a $35 trip fee.

Eddie the Armadillo was born with armor. The rest of us need a helmet that fits, so here's a quick Sunday check.

Your helmet should sit level on your head, about two fingers above your eyebrows. The side straps should form a V just under each ear, and you should be able to slide one finger under the chin strap. If it rocks back or slides forward, tighten the dial at the back.

Then look it over. Cracks, dents, or foam that's flaking mean it's done. The same goes for any helmet that has been through a crash, even if it looks fine, and most makers suggest replacing one after about five years. Texas heat is hard on a helmet left in a car or garage.

Check the kids' helmets too. They outgrow them faster than you'd think.

This weekend's trail spotlight is the Violet Crown Trail, the long-distance route that starts at Zilker and works its way south through the Barton Creek Greenbelt, Sunset Valley, and on toward the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

It's really two rides in one. The northern miles are rocky natural surface that suits a mountain bike. South of Highway 290, it turns into wide paved path that's comfortable for families, hybrids, and anyone out for an easy cruise.

Zilker will be packed for the festival this weekend, so skip the north trailhead and start at Dick Nichols Park in Southwest Austin. You'll have easy parking and paved trail right away.

We like to keep pricing simple, so here it is: every ATX Mobile appointment includes a $35 trip fee. That covers gas and the time the bus spends traveling between appointments. In return, you skip the bike rack, the drive across town, and the multi-day wait at a shop. We pull up, do the work on site, and you're riding the same day. Got five or more bikes at one location? Ask about our Community Day special.

Book at atxbikerepair.com or call 512.424.9638.

Biking to Zilker this weekend? 🎢 Lock it like you mean it:

πŸ”’ U-lock through the frame AND rear wheel
πŸ”’ Cable through the front wheel
πŸ”’ Fixed rack, never a sign pole you can lift it over

Skip the traffic, keep the bike. 🚲

Take a look at where your hands go. If your grips feel sticky, spin on the bar, or have worn smooth, or if your bar tape is peeling and packed down flat, they're done. Months of Austin heat, sweat, and sunscreen break the rubber and foam down faster than most people expect.

It matters more than looks. Worn grips mean less control when your hands are wet, and flattened tape passes every bump straight into your wrists. Replacing them is one of the least expensive ways to make an older bike feel new again.

We can swap grips or rewrap your bars at your home or office. Book at atxbikerepair.com or call 512.424.9638. Every appointment includes a $35 trip fee.

Some news we're proud of: ATX Mobile Bicycle Repair was featured in Voyage Austin online magazine. They spotlight local people and small businesses around the city, and we're honored to be included.
This one belongs to our customers too. Every time you booked us for a driveway tune-up, told a neighbor, or waved at the bus, you helped build this. Thank you, Austin.

Eddie the Armadillo has a 10-second test for you this Monday. Squeeze your front brake, then rock the bike forward and back. If you feel a knock or clunk up near the handlebars, your headset is loose. It's a small adjustment now and a worn-out bearing later if you keep riding on it. We'll come to you and sort it out.

Book at atxbikerepair.com or call 512.424.9638.

Today is World Teachers' Day, and the 2026 theme says it well: "Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures."

We get to see Austin teachers up close. At the Bike Bus event at Clayton Elementary, they were out there before the first bell, helping kids roll to school together and learn to ride safely. That kind of work doesn't show up on a report card, but it sticks with kids for life.

We get to see Lago Vista Elementary teachers up close. They work hard for our students every day. They are out there in all weather welcoming our kiddos to school every morning and sending them home with a smile every afternoon, let alone what they do all day, everyday teaching our kids.

To every teacher everywhere: thank you for what you do in the classroom and far outside it. We're standing with you today and every day.

Tag a teacher who made a difference for you. πŸ‘‡
