Unpopular opinion: a good label system is worth more than extra boxes.
How the pros label (your future self will thank you):
Label the side, not just the top. Once boxes are stacked, the tops disappear.
Write room plus contents. "KITCHEN – baking pans" beats "STUFF."
Color-code by room with tape or stickers, then put a matching sticker on each room's door at the new place. The crew can drop boxes in the right room without asking.
Number your boxes and keep a quick list on your phone. If Box 23 goes missing, you'll know.
Mark one or two boxes OPEN FIRST: sheets, towels, toilet paper, chargers, meds, coffee.
Write FRAGILE and THIS SIDE UP on two sides.

A moving quote that sounds too good to be true usually comes with a plot twist. And not the fun couch kind.
Red flags from Texas DMV (TxDMV) and federal FMCSA consumer guidance:
🚩 Unmarked or rental trucks. TxDMV requires licensed movers to show their name and TxDMV number on both sides of the truck.
🚩 Nothing in writing. TxDMV says the mover must give you a copy of the contract before loading.
🚩 No tariff on file. Registered Texas movers file their maximum rates with TxDMV, and you can ask for a copy.
🚩 A big upfront deposit before anyone has seen your stuff.
🚩 A whole-house quote given without a single question about stairs, elevators or large items.
Also know your coverage. TxDMV notes that a mover's basic liability is 60 cents per pound per article, so ask about higher levels of protection.
Before booking any in-state mover, look up their TxDMV number with TxDMV's online Truck Stop tool. For interstate moves, check FMCSA's Protect Your Move site.
