As many of you know, the tragic fire and explosion at the Robbins Lumber mill on May 15 has deeply impacted our community. We are heartbroken over the loss of Firefighter Andrew Cross, and our thoughts are with the 11 injured individuals and their families as they face the long road to recovery.

To help provide immediate relief, the PLC has donated $5,000 to the Maine Strong Memorial Foundation’s Emergency Relief Fund on behalf of our entire membership.

If you would like to join us in supporting these families and first responders during this incredibly difficult time, please consider contributing directly.

Every bit helps: https://givebutter.com/msmfemergencyfund-searsmontexplosion

Thank you for your generosity and for keeping Searsmont in your hearts.

The Maine Strong Memorial Foundation has launched an Emergency Relief Fund supporting those impacted by the Searsmont lumber mill explosion. Donations will provide direct financial relief to injured individuals and affected families.

If you’ve been considering the Master Logger Certification Program®, funding options are available to help cover initial certification fees across the region. Two separate 75% cost-share programs are in place to drastically reduce the financial barrier for first-time participants:

• Regional Funding: The New England Forestry Foundation (NEFF) has a 75% cost-share available to anyone looking to become Master Logger Certified anywhere within New England.
• Vermont-Specific Funding: Eligible Vermont contractors can access a dedicated 75% cost-share program.

To find out which cost-share program is best suited for your business, please reach out to Maggie Rideout, Certification Coordinator, at [email protected].

For Vermont Participants: This work is supported by Growing Vermont's Forest Resilience: A Collaborative Strategy, Award no. 24-CA-11132544-104 from the USDA Forest Service. This institution is an equal opportunity provider.

Class is in session at the PLC today!

We are proud to host a CDL Theory class for our member companies, helping these future drivers master federal safety regulations and core vehicle knowledge as they prepare to take their permit tests.

This course is just one of many regular, safety-focused trainings that the PLC hosts throughout the year. Providing high-quality education like this—at no cost to our members—is just one of the ways we support the next generation of professional drivers and keep our workforce safe.

If you’re not at the table, you’re on the menu. This week, Northeast logging had a powerful seat at the table.

PLC Executive Director Dana Doran was in Madison, Wisconsin, for the national Markets Matter Convening. Out of the entire country, the PLC and the Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association (Wisconsin) were the only two logging associations present for this critical conversation.

Dana was there to ensure that when national leaders from finance, government, and research talk about the future of wood markets, they are listening to the people who actually harvest and haul the wood.

Healthy forests depend on working markets. With massive shifts in traditional pulp and paper over the last decade, our industry urgently needs diverse, responsible outlets for low-value fiber, thinnings, and residuals. When those outlets are missing, it’s our logging crews, family forest owners, and rural communities that feel the impact first.

We made sure the unique regional challenges—and opportunities—of the Northeast are baked directly into the National Action Plan being delivered to drive future investment.

"It's a mill that's deeply connected to this community."

PLC Board Member Brian Bell highlights the heavy impact of the Robbins Lumber fire on local contractors and towns. Our thoughts remain with everyone affected as our industry rallies together.

As the Robbins Lumber mill recovers from last Friday's devastating fire, local businesses face emotional and financial challenges.
