Might we become the “Auburn-Lewiston International Airport”? At least for today, it has a nice ring to it.

This afternoon, we were proud to host a business-to-business networking luncheon connecting Auburn and Lewiston manufacturers with logistics and distribution businesses from the Province of Quebec.

Representatives from the Québec Government Office in Boston and the Maine International Trade Center (Maine State Department of Economic and Community Development) joined us as part of a discussion focused on relationships, trade, transportation, and the movement of goods between Maine and Quebec.

The Airport’s charter charges us not only with advancing aviation, but also supporting industrial and economic development in the surrounding area. Today was a strong reminder that this regional asset is also a platform for bringing people, businesses, and opportunities together.

Thank you to the City of Auburn, Maine (Official) and all of our partners for helping coordinate today’s event. As we continue working to attract private investment and strengthen regional logistics connections, we expect to host more of these conversations at KLEW.

Auburn, Maine and Quebec, Canada: Connected by air, rail, road — and relationships.

Keeping KLEW looking wicked sharp! 🚛🛩️🎨

Today, we welcomed our friends from Sanford Seacoast Regional Airport/KSFM (City of Sanford, Maine) to Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport as part of a shared pavement marking project on the airfield.

Fresh, visible pavement markings are a key part of an elevated airfield maintenance program. They support safe aircraft movement, improve pilot situational awareness, and reflect the pride we take in stewarding this regional aviation asset.

Just as important, this project is being completed without the use of state or federal grant dollars. Instead, KLEW is reinvesting airport-generated revenue (growing fuel sales, increased airport activity, and a rising number of based aircraft) back into a higher level of airfield maintenance.

It is also a great example of airports working together. By sharing expertise, equipment, and labor, Auburn and Sanford are helping deliver needed improvements at a lower cost while strengthening Maine’s general aviation network.

Even small upgrades make a big difference. 🛩️💡

Today, the KLEW Operations Team removed a taxiway sign with a burned-out older incandescent fixture and completed an in-house conversion to energy-efficient LED lighting.

It is a great example of the daily stewardship that keeps this facility operating safely and efficiently as a regional aviation asset for southern and western Maine. Just as importantly, it reflects the expertise, workmanship, and pride of our employees. They use their skills to extend the life of airport infrastructure, reduce energy use, and keep improvement work moving forward.

Not every airport investment comes with a ribbon cutting, but these behind-the-scenes projects are part of what keeps KLEW in its position as Maine's fastest growing general aviation airport.

In the last hour, Maine Forest Service aircraft stopped at KLEW for jet fuel as part of the ongoing firefighting response. The flight line team at KLEW is proud to support the Maine Forest Rangers as they respond to a forest fire just north of the City of Lewiston, Maine in the Town of Greene, Maine.

Moments like this highlight the important role our airport plays as a regional public safety asset supporting emergency response, wildfire suppression, medical flights, law enforcement, and other critical missions when our communities need them most.

We’re grateful to the Maine Forest Service and all responding agencies working to protect lives, property, and natural resources.
KLEW is more than a "local" airport , it is essential infrastructure for southern and western Maine.

Growth is taking off at KLEW ✈️

From the air, you can see the next phase of momentum at the Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport in the City of Auburn, Maine.

KLEW has become one of the fastest-growing general aviation airports in Maine, growing from just over 30 based aircraft to more than 100 in the last three years. That growth is now visible on the ground.

This photo shows a newly completed box hangar (next to our WWII-vintage hangar), with three additional shovel-ready box hangar sites ready for private investment.

You can also see the airport-owned T-hangar project, where structural steel is beginning to rise, supported by a new taxilane that will open up additional aircraft storage capacity. KLEW also has two additional pre-permitted T-hangar sites on that taxilane ready for future development.

For aircraft owners, aviation businesses, builders, and investors looking for room to grow in southern Maine, KLEW is ready. With direct access to I-95, proximity to Greater Portland and Maine’s lakes and mountains region, and a growing base of aviation activity, the Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport is positioning itself as a premier location for general aviation growth.

Today, our thoughts and prayers are with the family and colleagues of the Game Warden who tragically lost his life in a plane crash in Avon.

The aviation community in Maine is a close knit family. We know that in addition to his Game Warden peers at the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, other state agency pilots and operators here at KLEW and elsewhere are feeling this loss.
