✈️ Pilot Spotlight ✈️
Meet Sara! Here is her story:
“I had a few discovery flights when I was younger, but I officially started flight training in October 2025. My plan is to continue my ratings through an accelerated program with UND out west, and after that, I’ll decide how I want to build time toward the airlines. Thanks to an amazing instructor, I’m about 90% convinced I want to give back and become a CFI myself someday!
Flying has always sparked a sense of curiosity in me. Flight lessons and working as a customer line technician have only reinforced that aviation is where I’m meant to be. Every accomplishment feels rewarding — even the small victories, like absolutely buttering a landing, still put a cheesy smile on my face.
My aviation journey at Auburn DeKalb began with a discovery flight through Sweet Aviation. When they asked what aircraft I wanted to fly, I immediately chose the classic Cessna 172. That decision ended up shaping so much more than I expected. I connected instantly with my instructor, Josh Bender, and decided to continue my training here.
Choosing GWB as my home airport may be a little biased… but for good reason. I’ve spent time at other airports, and GWB truly stands out. It’s more than just a convenient location or the great FBO snacks — it’s the people. From the CLTs and airport managers to instructors, maintenance teams, and hangar tenants, Auburn DeKalb is full of incredible individuals from all walks of life.
The sense of community here is what makes this airport special, and I’m grateful to be part of it.”
