Last week, Airport Staff had the fun opportunity to give Green River College Air Traffic Control foreign exchange students a tour of Auburn Municipal Airport. The tour included a SpanaFlight CFI run through of flight training basics (thanks Colton!), a tour of Classic Helicopter Corp. operations and a guided tour of the Airport itself with insights into Airport Operations.

It was a great group with insightful questions!

Auburn Municipal Airport is hiring!

Interested in starting a career in Airport Operations or Airport Management? Want to help improve Auburn Airport?

Airport Staff are hiring for two separate positions right now covering this Spring, Summer and Fall.

Position #1 is Auburn's Airport Internship. Since City staff have taken over operation of Auburn Airport in late 2018, we have had two successful internships that work directly under Airport Staff on a myriad of projects relating to Airport Operations, Planning, City Government, Maintenance and much much more. This position is currently slated for right around 20 hours a week at $14.49 an hour.
Apply here: https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/auburn/jobs/3444394/airport-intern

Position #2 is Auburn's Airport Seasonal Worker. Three seasonal workers will be responsible for maintaining the Airport's grounds including landscaping, maintenance, inspections and other special projects. This position is setup for 40/hrs a week for up to 5.5 months at $20.49 an hour (experience dependent). Although this is a field position at the Airport, special efforts will be made to include as many training and networking opportunities as possible within the Airport Industry.

When applying for this position, please specify within the application that you would only like to work at the Airport and not the other city departments.
Apply here:

Huge thanks to everyone who swung by yesterday afternoon to help us celebrate Auburn winning the 2021 Fly Washington Passport Food Drive! Auburn's final count came in at 4,674 pounds of food donated to the Auburn Food Bank last year!

As part of the award celebration, we had Auburn Mayor Nancy Backus speak along with Auburn Food Bank Executive Director Debbie Christian, Bremerton National Airport Manager Warren Hendrickson, Auburn Airport Staff and a number of Tenants!
We are happy to be the home of the 2021 trophy but look forward to the healthy competition from other airports that this year will surely bring!

Quick Operations Update on this Morning's Runway conditions.

Runway 16/34 has a thin, 100% "Black Ice" covering this morning creating for some marginal to poor braking action. FICON NOTAMs are in effect until 12:30 PM today (at which point its expected to melt off).

Please check NOTAMs prior to operating in/out of S50.

*Runway and Plowing Update*

Runway 16/34 has just been re-opened (NOTAM Cancelled). FICON NOTAMs are in effect currently.

The Airport Plow is currently clearing the remainder of Taxiway Alpha and will begin clearing Vehicle Access gates next, followed by Taxilanes and then all remaining pavement pieces. We are hoping the sun will help melt some snow, however this may result in re-freezing (black ice) conditions to exist tonight/tomorrow.

Check NOTAMs for the most up to date conditions.
And lastly, thanks to the Whirly Bird for blowing off the remaining snow from the runway this morning!

Questions? 253-333-6821 or [email protected]

Runway 16/34 has been NOTAM'd closed due to excessive snow on the Runway. Airport Operations plans to assess field conditions and begin plow operations tomorrow morning at 8AM.

Please check NOTAMs for the most up to date field conditions including FICON NOTAMs.

Check back tomorrow for further updates.

*NOTAM UPDATE, RUNWAY 16/34 IS OPEN*
*CLOSURES HAVE BEEN CANCELLED*

Auburn Airport's lighting contractor finished scheduled lighting maintenance late this morning, thereby eliminating the need for tomorrow morning's Runway closure. The NOTAM (SEA NOTAM 10/256 S50) has been cancelled by Airport Staff.

If you have ever landed on Runway 34 facing to the north at nighttime, you may have noticed that the Runway End Identifier Lights (REILs) were quite delayed in their activation when keyed up by pilots on the CTAF (roughly seven second delay). However, with the completion of this morning's work, the REIL activation delay is back within normal parameters at less than two seconds.
