If you keep your boat in water, or on a lift (as well as any Holiday yard decorations and trampolines…), you may want to make some expedited preparations and checks this evening. Wind gust over the next 24-36 hours could exceed 60mph with coastal flooding and storm surge expected. Additional rainfall totals could be in excess of 4”, easily capable of draining batteries needed to keep bilge pumps operating. If by chance you are transiting our State’s coastal region and find yourself reading this post, anchorage/docking arrangements would be advised. Sea states offshore are forecast between 17’-22’. Closer to shore, 8’-13’. This could be a very serious system.

Everyone keep safe, and if you need assistance (of course when conditions allow for safe operations), we’re at the ready! (Graphics: Mike’s Weather Page / NC Weather Authority)

ICW SHOALING ALERT! This week alone, we have assisted four different members aground on a sandbar near Bogue Sound buoy 45A. This is located in the ICW at Cedar Point, just west of the Bogue Inlet junction buoy "B".

When passing 45A, we recommend boaters favor the red (north) side of the channel. Our captains have observed depths of less than two feet well inside the marked channel.

At our request, Coast Guard moved buoy 45A northwest and published the following Broadcast Notice to Mariners this morning:

SAFETY / BOGUE SOUND - CHART 11520 / SHOALING / SEC NC BNM 0500-23 / Thu, 16 Nov 2023 03:44:53 -0500

HEAVY SHOALING SURROUNDS BOGUE SOUND BUOY 45A (LLNR 39050) CAUSING AID TO BROADCAST MISLEADING SIGNAL. SHOALING EXTENDS INTO CHANNEL.
