Through our partnership with Skilled Nation, we're providing 50 scholarships worth $5,000 each to help students and career changers pursue high-demand skilled trades careers. The scholarships can be used for technical education, tools, and other education-related expenses.

What was once an eroded shoreline at Lamberts Point is now a thriving ecosystem!

The final phase of the Living Shoreline restoration project along the Elizabeth River in Virginia is now complete.

Developed with the Elizabeth River Project, the restoration uses native vegetation, oyster habitat, and other natural features to:

🌊 Improve water quality
🐟 Restore wildlife habitat
🚂 Protect critical rail infrastructure

🦪 And here's something you "oyster" know too: Approximately 6,000 young oysters are raised and placed each year through the project's oyster gardening program. Since a single oyster can filter up to 50 gallons of water per day, that's more than 100 million gallons of water filtered every year!

By replacing traditional stone barriers with a living shoreline that works with nature we’re able to stabilize the coast, strengthen the surrounding ecosystem, and improve the health of the river – right from our terminal’s backyard!

In response to the historic flooding impacting communities across central, eastern and southern Indiana, NS has opened our Community Disaster Relief Grant Program to support local recovery efforts.

Nonprofit organizations assisting individuals, families and communities affected by the flooding are encouraged to apply until September 30.

Strong communities are the foundation of our railroad, and we're committed to standing alongside our neighbors during times of need.

As communities across Indiana begin the long process of recovery, we hope these grants can help local organizations deliver critical support where it is needed most.

As families across Pittsburgh gear up for a new school year, our Community Impact team partnered with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank during their Open Market hours to provide free school supplies to local families. 🚂📚✏️

This back-to-school supply drive is just one of the many ways NS is working with our local partners to strengthen the communities where we live and work!

👏 Shout out to our Bridge & Building team in Columbia, SC, for reaching an incredible safety milestone: 38 years injury-free and counting!

For nearly four decades, this team, part of Engineering MW&S, has safely inspected and maintained bridges, culverts and railroad signs across approximately 740 track miles, helping keep freight moving throughout South Carolina and across our network.

Whether they're responding after severe weather, repairing infrastructure, or handling challenges that come with maintaining the railroad, this team gets the job done safely and the right way.
