Cruising during hurricane season can still be a wonderful vacation experience, but flexibility and preparation are especially important. Cruise lines closely monitor weather conditions and may change itineraries to keep guests and crew safe.
Here are a few tips to help you cruise with confidence during hurricane season:
1. Purchase Travel Insurance
This should be your first consideration. A comprehensive travel insurance policy may help protect your investment if covered weather-related disruptions affect your trip. Be sure to review the policy carefully, including coverage for trip cancellation, interruption, delays, missed connections, and medical emergencies.
2. Arrive at Your Cruise Port Early
Whenever possible, fly to your embarkation city at least one day before your cruise. During hurricane season, flight delays and cancellations can happen quickly.
3. Expect Possible Itinerary Changes
Cruise lines may change ports, reverse itineraries, extend or shorten port stays, or substitute destinations because of weather. Remember—the priority is keeping the ship away from dangerous conditions.
4. Pack Essential Medications in Your Carry-On
