The view has changed, but the heart of the park remains.

Over the past 30 years, Atlanta has grown and changed around Centennial Olympic Park. The skyline has reached higher, the landscape has matured, and new landmarks have become part of the view.

The park has remained a gathering place in the heart of downtown through it all, creating a front-row seat to three decades of Atlanta’s story.

Thirty years later, the details are still telling the story.

30 years separate these photos, yet many of the features found throughout Centennial Olympic Park in 1996 are still easy to recognize today.

The landmarks, the bricks, the Olympic symbols, all still carry pieces of the park’s history forward.

Swipe through for a look at then and now.

"Seeing OutKast come home to Centennial Olympic Park for was genuinely one of the best nights of my life. I had seen Big Boi solo before, but seeing him and André 3000 together in Atlanta, surrounded by the city and culture that produced them, was something else entirely. OutKast is sacred to me, and that weekend felt like an Atlanta hip-hop family reunion, with Future, Killer Mike, Sleepy Brown, 2 Chainz, and.." says Bunker on Google

From the very beginning, Centennial Olympic Park was built to bring people together.

During the summer of 1996, music and live performances filled the park as visitors from around the world gathered in the heart of Atlanta. In the years that followed, that stage welcomed hometown icons, major celebrations, and unforgettable moments that became part of the park’s story.

From the Olympic Games to Super Bowl celebrations, the FIFA Fan Festival and everything in between, the crowds and stages have changed, but the park has remained a place where Atlanta comes together.

Before concerts, festivals, and daily visitors, Centennial Olympic Park welcomed the world.

During the summer of 1996, the park became Atlanta’s gathering place, a place where families cooled off in the Fountain of Rings, visitors from around the globe met, music filled the air, and thousands gathered each day to celebrate the Olympic spirit.

These moments, preserved on film nearly three decades ago, capture not just what the park looked like, but what it felt like.
