Spotlight number four, and this one started with a fax machine and ended up... solving giant puzzles for a living!

Meet Michelle Reeves
Director, Carrier Strategy | ATL HQ | 11 years in logistics

Michelle's path started in a college intro logistics class, where she realized the industry was like solving a giant puzzle every day. Her days are a mix of collaboration, strategy, and problem-solving — working through complex issues, partnering with cross-functional teams, and driving key initiatives forward.

Michelle has a long list of accomplishments — helping launch a new carrier sales office, rolling out Routing Guide Tendering with the product team, and strengthening internal systems. But if she had to pick one, it's seeing the people she's hired and trained go on to build successful careers of their own.

Advice to women entering logistics: "Remember that everything is figure-out-able. Don't wait for someone else to hand you the next steps. Be curious, take ownership, and keep learning. Also, explore the many paths logistics has to offer — this industry is so much more than moving freight. Find the area that excites you most and don't be afraid to grow into it."

Advice to her younger self: "You don't have to know everything on day one. Stay curious, embrace challenges, and remember that every problem is an opportunity to learn something new."

What excites Michelle most about the future of logistics is watching technology transform the industry — AI, automation, and digital tools making decisions smarter, while strong relationships remain at the heart of it all. (And after starting her career on a fax machine, she's not taking the progress for granted!) And if she could ship herself anywhere right now? Maui during whale season — watching the humpback migration never gets old for her.

Meet Jackie Broadus
Sr. Director, Revenue Support Services | ATL HQ | 13 years in logistics

Jackie's path into logistics came through a recommendation from an old coworker who recruited her into the industry. Thirteen years later, she manages the full revenue cycle — billing, invoicing, credit, collections, and cash applications — putting out fires, engaging with Sales and Ops, and tracking down payments in a fast-paced role that keeps her constantly changing hats.

Her proudest accomplishment: building a team that the organization genuinely values for the work they do.

Advice to women entering logistics: "Be innovative, learn all you can about moving freight, and connect the dots with the economy."

Advice to her younger self: "Be creative and flexible."

Four years later, no two days look the same: whether she's creating new sales resources, traveling to different offices, working with new hires, or coaching Sales Managers, her goal every day is simply to make an impact on the people around her.

Her proudest accomplishment: watching the people she's coached since day one at NTG grow into successful leaders — building confidence, earning promotions, and making their own impact.

Advice to women entering logistics: "Be confident, be bold, and don't be afraid to take up space. If you have an idea, go after it. This industry rewards people who take initiative, and you will always be your biggest advocate. Trust yourself and don't be afraid to make your mark."

Advice to her younger self: "You never know where this career is going to take you, but if you stay passionate, work hard, and genuinely invest in the people around you, you'll be surprised where those relationships can lead. Control what you can control, give 110%, and let your work speak for itself."

Today's Weekly Freight Trends report tracks a freight market getting quieter on the surface, while the underlying pressure continues.

Truckload rates are easing with seasonal demand, not returning capacity. Van rates remain 40% to 45% above last year, carriers continue to leave the market and falling Panama Canal water levels are pushing more Asia-bound volume toward West Coast ports and rail.
