On behalf of everyone at R. E. West, we want to wish a happy Veterans Day to all the brave individuals who have served our country.

R. E. West is privileged and proud to have a large portion of its driver team made up of both veterans and active guard members. Every day they make us better as a company and an industry. Their commitment to duty, exemplified by their service careers, has carried over to their careers helping to keep our country and its economy moving. Our company recently found out that we were awarded the U.S. Department of Labor's HIRE Veterans Gold Medallion for 2021. This honor reaffirms our commitment to continue to offer our service men and women a pathway into the trucking industry.

and thank them for working to make our nation, our industry, and our company a better place.

Finally, every Veterans Day we end our post by reminding everyone that our veterans need our help and support. As our country continues to deal with challenges brought on by the pandemic, veterans and their families have been hit especially hard. On any given night, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development estimate that over 40,000 veterans are homeless. Right now, over 1.4 million veterans are considered at risk of homelessness due to poverty, lack of support networks, and poor living conditions. We don't believe anyone reading this thinks that is an acceptable situation. Please take a moment, reach out, and find some way that you and your family can lend a helping hand to those in need. Our veterans' fidelity to freedom of democracy deserves nothing less, and so much more.

Stay safe out there and from all of us here at R. E. West, happy Veterans day!

Friday is here, and with it comes this week’s final $100 gift card winner. Today’s lucky driver is John Donovan. John calls Cookeville, Tn home and is another of the talented drivers in our dry van division. Many of the drivers that we’ve talked about this week are relatively new additions to our team. Mr. Donovan breaks that streak; he has been with our company for over nine years. In that time, he has run more than 1.1 million miles across the length and breadth of the United States and Canada.

R. E. West has three core guidelines for its drivers. They were established by our founder, Bob West, many years ago, and though time has seen this industry change in massive ways, the three core guidelines, while simple, are still sufficient to cover it all. As any driver that has went through orientation here can tell you, “If you can do these three things, you can work here as long as you want to.”

Be Safe. Be On Time. Get Along.

John, like so many of our veteran drivers, exemplifies these three basic directives. Over those many miles driven he has gone to great lengths to take care of his equipment, his cargo, and more importantly, to look out for all the other motorists sharing the roadways with him. He has accumulated an excellent record of on-time deliveries and gone out of his way to do what is necessary to provide excellent service to our customers. Finally, John does all this with a smile on his face and a great attitude. The amazing thing is that while Mr. Donovan is exceptional, he’s not the exception; rather, he’s representative of so many of the great drivers that we are lucky to have working with us here at R. E. West. People really do make the difference and we have some great ones driving those big black trucks.

Thank you so much to John Donovan for all he does and congratulations on winning the final drawing of the week.

We’d like to close out today’s message by talking about a couple more of the great drivers that deserve to be celebrated this week. Mr. Jerry Brown and Mr. Robert Horton have combined for almost 30 years of service with R. E. West and are two of the best drivers you’ll find anywhere, full stop. Right now, they are out of the truck taking care of themselves and their health, but we want to be sure to let them know that everyone here is thinking about them and can’t wait to have them back here with us.

The drivers at R. E. West and across our entire industry deserve more than a week’s worth of recognition and praise. The job they do is difficult, the environment they do it in is hostile, and the challenges faced by their families and themselves because of the unique lifestyle required can be difficult. It takes so little effort, every day, to show them little signs of thanks. Give them a little extra room to merge in traffic, stay out of their blind spots on the interstate, don’t cut them off. Making their lives a little easier is the least we can do for all they provide for our way of life.

We hope you’ve enjoyed the pictures from this week and learning a little more about a few of our amazing drivers. This weekend, we are going to post even more pictures that were submitted to us, so be sure to check back in. We’re especially excited to share with you some of the furry companions that keep some of our drivers company on the road. If you’ve never seen a Chiweenie, prepare to be overwhelmed by the cuteness.

R. E. West Drivers, remember to please stop by and see us for your t-shirt and Subway gift card. If you are in during the day over the weekend, check with Don and he should be able to get you taken care of. There are also pizza and sandwiches available in the fridge in the break room as well as snacks and drinks. Big “Thank You’s” to Jolene Thompson, Anna Maria Williams, Amy Lackey, and Tina Jobs for helping to get everything organized for our drawings, shirts, gift cards, and food.

One last time for 2021, Happy Driver’s Appreciation Week to all the men and women that make the transportation industry go. No matter who you work for, what you drive, or what you haul, you have our respect and gratitude. Stay safe and be well.

This year’s Driver Appreciation Week is flying by! Today, drivers coming through our Ashland City location were able to enjoy a little pizza for lunch. Anyone coming in for the weekend, be sure to check out the break room tomorrow for another lunch spread and snacks throughout the day.

Today’s $100 gift card recipient is James Johnson. James comes to R. E. West by way of Clarksville, Tn. He is one of our newest van drivers, having just gotten into his own truck earlier this month.

James is a graduate of our on-the-job training program. He worked with R. E. West to obtain his CDL and then spent time with one of our over-the-road trainers to get his professional driving career started off on the right foot. He is also a military veteran, having retired from the Army after a 20-year career. We were able to meet James through the Soldier for Life Transition Assistance Program (TAP). R. E. West has been participating in this program for many years and it has helped us connect with many great veterans, like James, who have been able to transition into successful careers in the trucking industry.

Congratulations to James for winning today’s drawing and thank you for all you do!

We hope you will check back with us tomorrow as we continue to celebrate Driver Appreciation Week; there’s one more gift card to hand out and more pictures from our drivers to share. R. E. West Drivers, I know we are starting to sound like a broken record, but please stop by and see Jolene when you can to get your t-shirt and subway gift card. Mr. Tommy Spangler was in the office today and picked his up and modeled it for us; he was looking pretty sharp.

Thank you again to all the great professional drivers out there that keep this nation running. Stay safe and have a happy Driver Appreciation Week!

The winner of our drawing for today’s $100 gift card is Gerardo “Gerry” Martinez. Gerry runs out of El Paso, Tx and works in our dry van division. Although only with our company for a little less than a year, he has quickly distinguished himself as an invaluable team member who is always willing to step up and help get a tough job done.

Aside from being an excellent driver, Mr. Martinez is also one of our over-the-road driver trainers. He and his fellow trainers spend three weeks instructing our new, inexperienced drivers as they begin their careers. Aside from helping them become safe and efficient by learning best practices for operating their equipment and the rules of the road, Gerry and his trainer colleagues work to show the men and women under their tutelage the many little things that truly define what it means to be a professional truck driver. Now, more than ever, it is vital to the continued success of the trucking industry to produce well-trained, capable young drivers that are ready to meet the challenges of an evolving transportation landscape. Gerry and the other trainers like him serve a crucial role in that process and we are grateful to all of them. Congrats to Gerry for being today’s winner and thank you for all that you do!

We are half-way through this week’s celebration and still going strong. Visit us on Facebook again tomorrow and check out some more pictures from our drivers. We’ve gotten some great submissions this year and are going to share as many as we can.

R. E. West Drivers, don’t forget to stop in and see Jolene for your t-shirt and subway gift card. Additionally, we are going to have lunch provided at the Ashland City office tomorrow and Friday. Be sure to swing by the break room if you can and grab a bite.

Thank you again to all our incredible drivers and their families as we continue to celebrate Driver Appreciation Week!

We are continuing our celebration of Driver Appreciation Week with another $100 gift card giveaway! Today's winner is Talesa McCall.

Talesa is an Alabama native that comes to R. E. West by way of El Paso, Tx. She is another new team member who started at R. E. West almost six months ago. Talesa was trained by Roger Edwards and has begun a career that counts her as one of over 217,000 women driving trucks for a living. While working in our dry van division, she has proven herself to be a highly motivated, safe, and courteous professional.

Congrats to Talesa on the gift card and thank you for all you do!

Be sure to check back in tomorrow for more pictures from our drivers and more drawing winners. R. E. West Drivers, t-shirts and subway gift cards are available for everyone at the Ashland City office. Be sure to stop in and see Jolene for yours!

Stay safe out there and thanks to all our amazing drivers as we celebrate Driver Appreciation Week!

Welcome to this year's Driver Appreciation Week! At R. E. West and across the transportation industry, we are making a special effort to show our appreciation to the men and women that have chosen to make their livings as professional truck drivers. Their hard work, dedication, and professionalism serve as an essential pillar of our economy and our way of life. Whoever you are, wherever you are, take a couple of seconds this week to tip your cap and offer a smile to one of those truckers turning miles up and down the highways and byways of America.

Part of our celebration this week is a drawing for our drivers that have submitted pictures of themselves with their trucks. We've had a ton of great submissions and are selecting one each day to receive a $100 visa gift card.

Today's winner is Allen Neal. Allen is pictured here with his granddaughter, Remona. Mr. Neal has been with R. E. West for just shy of six months and calls Little Rock, Arkansas home. He is one of our specialized division drivers, hauling over-dimensional equipment all over the United States and Canada. Around that division's operation center, he is known as an incredibly nice, professional team member who is easy to work with and always ready to take care of business. Thank you, Allen for all your hard work and sharing the great picture!

Be sure to check back in every day this week for more pictures from our drivers and more drawing winners. Also, R. E. West Drivers, starting tomorrow (Tuesday), please stop by and see Jolene in the Ashland City office for a t-shirt and gift card to Subway. Thank you to all the drivers out there, we hope you have a safe and happy Driver Appreciation Week!
