Some of the best meals I’ve ever eaten have been in the middle of nowhere. There’s something about sitting down to a chef-cooked dinner after a long day on the trail that brings a group together. People who started the morning as strangers end the night talking around the table.
Jesse Houston of Switchback Supper Club makes this possible on a lot of our trips. Jesse is a James Beard semifinalist and an adventure chef, which means he took his kitchen into the backcountry and cooks every meal on location, wherever we set up camp. His food is as good as anything you’d be served in a five-star restaurant, except you’re eating it around a campfire.
The meals are a big part of what we do on every Fernweh trip, and a big part of why people come back.
