Today marks 29 years since Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was published, and I keep thinking about how those pages became real places in the UK.

Christ Church Oxford is the Great Hall. The Glenfinnan Viaduct in Scotland is where the Hogwarts Express rounds that unforgettable bend. The cloisters at Gloucester Cathedral are the corridors Harry and Ron ran through in their robes. King's Cross has an actual Platform 9 3/4, and yes, you can push a trolley into the wall.

These aren't just filming locations on a checklist. They're the bones of a story that rewired a whole generation's imagination, sitting in plain sight across England and Scotland.

I've been planning fantasy travel for years and I've never seen a trip sell out in seven days, until this one.

The New Zealand 2027 Fellowship is full. Every spot gone in a week.

Hobbiton is one of the most extraordinary places I've ever stood, and I've been to 64 countries.

This is the real Hobbiton Movie Set in New Zealand's Waikato region. Not a replica, not a theme park. The permanent set Peter Jackson built on a private farm for the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, 44 hobbit holes, the Green Dragon Inn, the Party Tree, Bag End on the hill.

What you don't realize until you're there is the scale of it. The landscape rolls in every direction exactly the way the Shire is supposed to. The hills are that green. The sky is that blue. The hobbit holes are built into the earth exactly the way Tolkien described.

I've helped a lot of Tolkien fans plan their New Zealand trips, and Hobbiton is always the moment they message me from the road.

You've got one trip. One destination. Which world are you actually booking a flight to?

Option A: New Zealand, walk through Middle-earth, stand on the Tongariro, stay in a hobbit hole, stare at the Remarkables and pretend you're in Rohan.

Option B: Scotland and England, trace Harry Potter's footsteps through Edinburgh's Old Town, walk the corridors of Alnwick Castle, find Platform 9¾, and end the day with a dram of whisky in a medieval pub.

Option C: Croatia, Iceland, and Northern Ireland, Game of Thrones filming locations across three countries, with the Wall, King's Landing, and the Iron Islands all within reach.

Option D: Romania and Transylvania, Dracula's castle, medieval Saxon villages, and a dinner in Bran Castle that will haunt you for the rest of your life.

Lord of the Rings travel changed everything I thought I knew about what a trip could feel like.

I've been to 64 countries. I've led groups through the Scottish Highlands, wandered Roman ruins at dawn, and spent a week in Transylvania for reasons I'm not fully ready to explain. But nothing, and I mean nothing, hit me the way standing in Hobbiton did.

I was surrounded by the landscape Peter Jackson called the Shire. Not a replica. Not a themed park. The actual place where Frodo, Bilbo, and Sam, all started their most epic journey. And I just stood there. A grown man who has read The Lord of the Rings more times than he can count, completely undone by this place.

That moment is the reason I built the Lord of the Rings Pilgrimage to New Zealand.

This trip isn't for casual travelers. It's for the people who ugly-cried at "I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you." The people who have tried, at least once, to speak Elvish. The people who felt a physical ache when Rivendell first appeared on screen and thought: I need to go there.

We depart November 23, 2027 and return December 5. New Zealand in late spring. Fellowship vibes the whole way. The waitlist is live now.

Fantasy travel isn't a niche. It's a completely different way of seeing the world.

It's the difference between visiting New Zealand and standing in the actual shadow of Mount Doom. Between booking a Scotland trip and walking the streets where Diagon Alley was born. Between a Croatia itinerary and sailing past the cliffs where the Iron Islands were filmed.

Most people plan a trip. Fantasy nerds plan an experience, one that connects to something they've loved since they first cracked open a book or pressed play on a film that changed everything.
