Every day that goes by these days it seems like the foundations that I would consider “normal life” break up apart more and more in ways both big and small.

Time has always felt like this river to me where sometimes I want to just plant my feet in the ground and stay put for a while, but that’s impossible of course. Lately, it just seems like the water just moves faster and faster and more violently.

This trip made that river seem like it slowed down, maybe calmed down for a little while and that felt really good. I felt I was able to notice and enjoy the flow of it.

There was a moment yesterday during Tatsuro Murakami’s performance where I’m not sure I ever remember being so moved by music.

Part of it was that I’ve never seen someone use Thermae like that, it was so beautiful and surreal. Some context there is that Thermae was the last Chase Bliss pedal I did all the engineering on (and was extremely challenging for me to say the least) so that pedal really carries a different weight for me.

A bigger part though was the context. There are just so many moments of genuine darkness and doubt (at least for me) when running a business like this that it can feel really overwhelming a lot of the time. So often it either feels anxious or some combination of darkness and happiness and this just felt like a moment of pure light.

And then I just started thinking about my brother and the tears just started streaming down my face. I was kind of underneath the counter hidden away so only a couple people saw me but I haven’t cried like that in a long time.

I felt without a shadow of a doubt that my brother Chase would be so proud of Chase Bliss and everyone in that room (and not in that room) that worked so hard to make that moment and that day exist, in one of the coolest guitar pedal shops I’ve ever been in.

I’m so grateful today. Those of you in these pics thanks for letting me take a picture of you with my phone uncomfortably close to your face to try and really take a snapshot of all the friends (old and new) on this trip and trying to stop time for a bit there. I love you all very much.

So Empress Effects and Old Blood Noise Endeavors have transformed the top floor of our Airbnb into what looks like an extremely cool tech startup. They are working on some very inspiring prototypes to debut at the Tokyo Pedal Summit this weekend. Hey everybody,

We have some big CHOMPI news today, some bad and some good.

The bad news is that CHOMPI is now officially discontinued. We do still have some in stock, but once those are gone that’s it. That being said, we will continue to support everyone who has purchased a CHOMPI – repairs, questions, etc. – so no worries there.

The good news is that CHOMPI is now open source. You now have everything you need to edit firmware, create your own firmware from scratch, and even physically build a DIY CHOMPI of your own.

It’s been quite a journey, and our feelings are very mixed as we make this announcement. But we’re excited to be able to make CHOMPI open source, and see where it goes.
