Karen Wiley Alt took over the family business after retiring from the Maryland State Police in 2001. In 1979 Chuck Wiley, a lifelong marine professional established Anchor Marine Enterprises, Inc. Chuck had serious training as a Merchant Mariner, Naval Architect, Yacht Designer and Yacht builder, not to mention Sailmaker and renowned yacht racer. He inspected the yachts, boats vessels and ships an
d educated the buyers, insurance companies and other involved parties about all aspects of the inspection and or survey. Chuck (and Karen) trained and recruited associates with similarly impressive credentials for consulting and day to day inspections. Karen's first adult job was working in an Annapolis Boat Yard as well as putting in time at the family shipyard. She worked in the loft at Ulmer sails during her school breaks. She also apprenticed under Chuck and then became a full time Marine Surveyor in 2000 after years of OJT and outstanding formal training through Chapmans, ABYC, USCG and IAMI among others. Karen has been a full time professional Accredited marine surveyor through the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors since 2002. She has mentored various professionals over the years and currently has two apprentices studying under her.
