Lots of bluegills today. If I was keeping them, it was a limit under an hour. Good news for these bluegills, and the fishery in general, is they all live to swim another day. These fish are averaging 8.5 to 9” roughly, and a 10” gill is doable. Just have to keep letting them swim.

Found a few feisty, albeit a little undersized smallmouth, who tested my knots. The knots passed, but they sure tried.

Missed two opportunities on suckers. You don’t get many, so that was a hard pill to swallow.

It was not exactly on fire today on the river. Saved a dragonfly from almost certain death by smallmouth and shortly after connected on a Master Angler Northern Hogsucker. It cleared the minimum by 4.5”, and as you can see, swam back to get bigger.

Slow, damp start to the day. It did pick up but only in one spot. Pays to know the spots on the tough days.

Caddis flies can be confused as moths by many people. They are aquatic as larvae and pupae. When they are ready for adulthood they jet to the surface of rivers and lakes to “hatch” and fish know this. They join mayflies, midges, dobsonflies, and stoneflies in similar but very different, emergence.

Fish that haven’t eaten flies or lures even a few minutes ago before, begin feeding heavily.

These caddis were on the inside of the truck. No wonder there are so many healthy fish in this section, door was only open for 30 seconds.
