Division of Forestry & Fire Protection (DFFP) Morning Wildfire Round Up - Monday, June 22, 2026
There were nine new fires with the DFFP protection area on Sunday. Red Flag Warnings are in effect until 10 pm tonight – with additional thunderstorms and lightning predicted for today.
Northern Region
Starry Fire ( #234) - FAS
Location: 13 miles SSW of Nenana
Size: 543 acres
Personnel: 95
Status: Firefighters limited fire spread toward Anderson and Clear. Anderson is under a “GO!” evacuation order.
Granite Fire ( #222) - DAS
Location: 15 miles SE of Delta Junction
Size: 36 acres
Personnel: 51
Status: Crews remain on scene to keep the fire within control features. Fire is 80 percent contained.
Twin Bear ( #253) - FAS
Location: near milepost 31 on the Chena Hot Springs Road
Size: 2 acres
Personnel: 8
Status: Helitack supported firefighters on the ground with bucket drops.
Barley 2 Fire ( #257) - DAS
Location: 20 miles E of Delta Junction
Size: 3.5 acres
Personnel: 0
Status: DFFP helicopter stopped forward progress with bucket drops and resources will return today.
Seventeenmile Fire ( #258) - FAS
Location: 2 miles NW of Anderson
Size: 1 acre
Personnel: 0
Status: Fire was burning in mixed spruce and hardwoods.
Flag Fire ( #260) - FAS
Location: 30 miles SE of Fairbanks
Size: 3 acres
Personnel: 0
Status: Fire is in a Limited Management Option and will be monitored.
Chisolm Fire ( #261) - FAS
Location: 4 miles S of the Flag Fire
Size: 3 acres

Status: Fire is in a Limited Management Option and will be monitored.
Coastal Region
Joaquin Fire ( #238) - SWS
Location: 31.5 miles SW of McGrath
Size: 15 acres
Personnel: 6
Status: Fire continued burning on the edges but no immediate growth potential. Native allotment in the area.
Vanderpool Fire ( #256) – SWS
Location: 9 miles E of McGrath
Size: 8 acres
Personnel: 4
Status: Air tankers provided retardant drops around 75 percent of the fire.
Nixon Fire ( #227) - SWS
Location: 15 miles N of McGrath
Size: 15 acres
Personnel: 6
Status: Firefighters continued to work towards containment efforts.
Beluga Fire ( #213) - MSS
Location: 16 miles W od Mount Susitna
Size: 64.5 acres
Personnel: 25
Status: Minimal fire activity apart from mid-day flare ups. Fire is 65 percent contained.
Grandview Fire ( #204) - KKS
Location: Sterling
Size: 88.8 acres

Status: Crews mopped up 100 feet in from the perimeter. Fire is 90 percent contained
Matanuska Fire ( #255) – MSS
Location: near mile 36 of the Glenn Highway
Size: 0.3 acre

Status: Two engines remained on scene to mop-up to ensure no heat remains.
Takotna Fire ( #265) – SWS
Location: 5 miles E of the Nixon Fire
Size: 1 acre

Status: Fire was creeping with some torching on the perimeter. Fire will be addressed as resources allow.
Chicken Fire ( #250) – SWS
Location: 3 miles S of Flat
Size: 0.5 acres

Status: Firefighters contained and controlled the fire on Sunday afternoon.
