Today has been a very emotional and stressful day. A few years ago I went and picked up a black German Shepherd (K9 Doc) for a young couple that has a child that is autistic. The hope was the child would make a connection with this shepherd and help bring him out of his shell. As his parents had hoped he slowly came out of his shell. He now plays baseball and is active more than they would’ve ever dreamed. We kept in touch and she kept me up-to-date on his progress. I was pleased that I had a small part and helping him become more. As the boy grew older he depended less upon the dog and Doc also played a new role as a cadaver dog. Fast forward a few years until two months ago. I get a call from an old friend stating that it was time for Doc cross the rainbow bridge do to age and sickness. She once again called on me to help. I took Doc and had him cremated. this whole two months I thought that she had gotten him back. Well this morning I get a call and she is upset and crying. She still has not received Doc back. I thought this whole time that she had already gone to get him. My friend has problems of her own and is fixing to have surgeries that will change her life forever. She could really use some help as well as prayers. But I digress. She called me up to ask one last favor for Doc. Could I go and pick him up from the cremation. I was a little surprised and taken aback because as stated before I thought she had already done this. I was upset with myself for not asking and volunteering before. Once I got off the phone with her today I went straight up to pick up Doc. I came home and waited for her to get back from her doctors offices. She called me and I proceeded to take Doc on a motorcycle ride down to Angleton. This is the first time that I have been included in a rescue from the very beginning to the very end. I find it to be a great honor. In the pictures below you will see doc as I picked him up the day that I delivered him. In the second picture you will see him as I deliver him today. And in all my 12 years of transporting this is probably the most one has ever affected me.
