✨ Confession from a grown woman...

When I was 16 years old, I didn't want to go to Disney.

In fact, I was pretty sure I was too old for it.

My parents practically had to drag me there.

Then I walked onto Main Street, U.S.A.

And everything changed.

The music.

The smells.

The excitement.

The feeling that, for just a little while, the outside world didn't matter.

I remember looking around and thinking, "Okay... now I get it."

What surprised me most wasn't the rides or the attractions.

It was the joy.

Pure, uncomplicated joy.

And all these years later, I still feel it every time I walk through those gates.

Maybe it's silly that a place can mean so much to an adult.

But I've learned that joy is rare, and when you find something that consistently brings it into your life, you don't apologize for it—you embrace it.

Disney reminds me to dream bigger, laugh more, and hold onto a little bit of childlike wonder.

And honestly?

The only feeling that comes close is when one of my grandchildren smiles at me. ❤️

So now I'm curious...

What's a place you never expected to love, but ended up stealing your heart?

One of the biggest misconceptions about travel is that it’s a luxury.

Rest isn’t a luxury.

Time with the people you love isn’t a luxury.

Stepping away from the endless emails, appointments, errands, and responsibilities isn’t a luxury.

It’s necessary.

Sometimes the best souvenir isn’t something you bring home.

It’s the feeling of being relaxed, recharged, and reminded of what matters most.

If you could be sitting on any beach in the world right now, where would it be?

That moment when you’re halfway through your trip and catch yourself thinking, “Wow, I could seriously get used to this.” 🌴✨

I had that same feeling in Tahiti.

✈️ The trip started with a canceled flight and ended at a children's hospital.

But that's not the part I'll remember most.

Last week, our family traveled to Hawaii to help our daughter and her family begin a new chapter on Oahu.

What should have been a straightforward trip turned into a series of unexpected challenges that reminded me why travel is about so much more than perfect plans.

I wrote about the experience, the lessons we learned, and why some of the best travel stories rarely go according to plan.

We accidentally hiked a muddy 27% grade trail... and didn't realize it until we were halfway up.

We were just driving around exploring when we spotted a sign for a waterfall hike.

For some reason, I said, "Let's stop."

The little kids were asleep in the car. The big kids had zero interest in hiking. So Vince and I decided to check it out ourselves.

What we didn't realize?

It had just rained.

The trail was nothing but mud, rocks, and slippery roots. And what I thought would be a quick walk turned out to be a 0.8-mile climb with a 27% grade.

By the time we figured that out, turning around felt harder than continuing.

So we kept going.

A little muddy. A little out of breath. Questioning our life choices more than once.

But when we finally reached the waterfall, it felt like we'd stumbled onto a hidden piece of the island that most people drive right past.

Every muddy step was worth it.

It reminded me that some of our best travel memories happen when we say yes to something unexpected.

A few things we learned:

• Read the trail signs before you start—they'll usually tell you the distance and grade.
• Check if a trail is family-friendly before bringing younger kids.
• Wear shoes you don't mind getting muddy.
• Don't skip the spontaneous stops. Sometimes those become the stories you remember most.

Would you have turned around when you saw the mud and rocks - or kept going?

Oahu friends, I need your help.

We're spending the next 3 weeks here while my daughter's family gets settled into their new home, and we'd love some local recommendations.

What's the ONE thing we absolutely shouldn't miss while we're here?

It could be:
• A favorite food truck
• A hidden gem
• An easy family-friendly walk
• A local spot tourists usually overlook
