New Mexico Offroad

New Mexico Offroad The New Mexico Virtual Jeep Club came about during the summer of 2002. We've now morphed to NMOffroad to better reflect our diverse interests.

After several months of exchanging ideas and tips with other Jeepers around the area, a couple astute members realized they weren't the only ones in the Albuquerque area. Our member list blew up in a few short days, from the original 2 or 3 names, until the day of our first 'real' run, when it included about 12 individuals and families with the common foresight and good taste to own a Jeep vehicle

. As of January 2003, the mailing list is over 50 names and still growing. Around 2007-2008 we changed the site from nmvjc.org to nmoffroad.com. This name change was necessary to better reflect the diverse interests of our members. While we will ALWAYS be the NMVJC, NMOffroad is an all-encompassing entity that shows our love for all things outdoors.

Currently Uhaul will not allow ANY Jeep Wranglers (2dr and 4dr) with soft tops to tow any trailer, this is a policy that needs updated. Last night on the 10PM news, there was a short story on how the Santa Fe National Forest is releasing the new Motor Vehicle Usage Map, which did not even mention any of the true impact. The release of this map will show the 70% + closure of existing forest roads and singletrack in the Jemez mountains. Not only does it effect where you can drive in the forest, it also closes 95% of RV/car camping and essentially bans hunters from using a vehicle for retrieving game. The New Mexico Off Highway Vehicle Alliance has a lawsuit fighting this decision because the SFNF broke the law by not abiding by the National Environmental Policy Act when deciding on these closures. Here is a link to the NMOHVA press release for more information about the lawsuit: http://nmohva.org/main/download_file.php?id=33&type=issue
