Did you know ABQ’s bus system started over 100 years ago?

Before ABQ RIDE existed, Albuquerque’s buses were operated by a private company called the Albuquerque Bus Company. The City of Albuquerque eventually purchased the system and its facilities, launching the public transit system we know today.

Fun fact:
- The original transit center near UNM is still used today as a staff facility.
- Over the last century, Albuquerque’s transit system has grown alongside the city, expanding routes, improving service, and now offering Zero Fares so everyone can ride for free.

And yes! We still have one of the original antique buses, which you might see driving in parades and special events around town!

Attention Riders: Bus Detours in Effect!

Effective Saturday, October 17 and 24, Central buses will be detoured westbound from Downtown between 3rd and 4th St. due to road work from approx. 8 am until 5 pm impacting Routes 66, 766, and 777.

Effective Saturday, October 17 from 3:30 pm until end of service, Routes 53 and 54 will be detoured due to a special event on Coal and and 4th St. with bus stops closed on 4th St. from Bridge to Lead in both directions.

Effective Sunday, October 18 from 5 am until 4 pm, Routes 10, 66, and 766/777 will be detoured due to the Duke City Marathon.

Attention Kirtland Air Force Base Riders Using Route 157.

Effective Monday, November 2, Route 157 will no longer go onto the base after 5 pm. Due to recent changes to gate hours, the last trip will now arrive at Building 800 at 4:29 pm and depart at 4:39 pm.

Ride ART for the Ultimate Route 66 Remixed Experience!

Taking Albuquerque Rapid Transit (ART) is the perfect (free!) way to explore Route 66 Remixed art installations and sites along Central Avenue.

Transit influencer XMT.Images joined ABQ RIDE and ABQtodo.com - Things To Do in ABQ on an adventure to local arts and culture sites by easily hopping on and off the bus.

Route 66 Remixed consists of 20 large-scale public art installations and digital activations that share stories, traditions, and people that have helped to shape ABQ. The project is led by CABQ Arts & Culture with support from Visit Albuquerque, Meow Wolf, Refract Studio, and local artists.

Now it’s your turn! Here’s the step-by-step for your next Route 66 adventure:
1 - Park for FREE at the Central & Unser Transit Center and hop on ART eastbound.
2 - Pass by “505 Sunset Blvd” at the Unser Garage by Rob Vanderslice.
3 - Look for “Sunset to Sunrise” on the outside of an ART bus by Dante Betsch.
4 - Hop off at the BioPark Station.
5 - Check out “Enchanted Pond” right inside the BioPark entrance by Lea Anderson.
6 - Explore the ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden.
7 - Hop on ART at the BioPark Station and hop off at Old Town Station.
8 - Visit the Albuquerque Museum exhibit “The Other Route 66: 100 Years of People, Identity, and Place in Albuquerque”.
9 - Explore “The Land That Guides Me” outside the museum by Sonja Killer.
10 - Hope on ART at Old Town Station and hop off at Barelas Station.
11 - Cool down with a cold brew at Lasso Coffee & L***r.
12 - Visit “Buffalo return to Route 66” outside the The Historic El Rey Theater by Thomas Christopher Haag & Jesse Littlebird.
13 - Check out “Cultural Crossroads” inside 505 Central Food Hall by Lynette Haozous.
14 - Pass by “Historic Crossroads” at 4th St. & Central by Gael Luna on the Rosenwald Bros building.
15 - Use your phone to engage with the “Old Road” AR experience by Carmen Montes at 4th & Central.
16 - Make your way to the Downtown Station and head westbound back to your car or continue the Route 66 Remixed journey eastbound at the Alvarado Station.

Attention Riders: Balloon Fiesta Detours on Routes 140 & 10.

Effective Monday, October 5 through Friday, October 9, Route 140 will be on detour. Please note the route will not be traveling northbound beyond Alameda Blvd due to traffic restrictions; the CNM Workforce Training Center will not be serviced at this time.

Effective Sunday, October 4 from 4:30 pm until 10:30 pm, there will be a detour on Route 10 for the Globito Glow in the Village. City buses will use 2nd St.. All bus stops will be closed between Osuna and Los Ranchos.

Our team is proud to show off our progress in transit safety and security.

ABQ RIDE recently welcomed 17 City of Tucson officials for a two-day visit focused on transit safety, zero fares, community engagement, technology, and more. From facility tours and ride-alongs, to safety panels and conversations with our team, it was a great opportunity to share what we’ve learned and exchange ideas with our regional partners.

We’re proud of how far our safety program has come and glad for the opportunity for the chance to share our journey with our friends at Sun Tran. If even one idea from the visit helps them along their own safety journey, we consider it time well spent.

Local Car Clubs Participate in the Cruisers for Route 66 program.

The City of Albuquerque launched Cruisers for Route 66, a program to empower community care for historic Central Avenue. Through District 3 Councilor Peña's initiative, seven car clubs adopted medians and 25 bus stops to support our Adopt-A-Stop program.

Shouts to the following car clubs for stepping up to volunteer through One ABQ Volunteers and setting a strong example of community stewardship for the future of the lowrider community:
