I can't think of a better way to wrap up the week and kick off the weekend than with this kind of glowing client feedback. We began supporting this customer on a trial basis in late February, and now we're gearing up to work on airplane #20! To me, that speaks volumes about the incredible team we have here at AFS.

But that's not all—during this same period, we’ve provided inspections and maintenance support for at least 10 other aircraft. The same commitment to quality and efficiency is evident in every project we take on. This level of excellence isn’t just about certifications or quality manuals (though we have those too). It stems from a deeply rooted set of values and ethics that every AFS team member upholds as the gold standard for doing business.

As I’ve said before, AFS doesn’t offer fast and cheap maintenance support. What we do offer is safe, efficient, and reliable maintenance at a fair and reasonable cost. If that’s what you value, we’d love to work with you. Get in touch with us today to schedule your aircraft!

Love it when the hangar is full!

Talking with a prospective new client today and he mentioned that based on what he heard from others, AFS could perform his aircraft fast and cheap. Some might take this as a compliment, but we don’t. I had to correct him and said that we don’t do fast and cheap here at AFS, we do efficient, safe, and reasonably priced aircraft inspections and maintenance.
We picked up an aircraft several months ago that needed their inspection done quickly as a pilot needed a check ride the following week. Unfortunately, that aircraft still sits in our hangar as they make the decision to fix or retire due to the number of faults that we found.
At AFS, we recognize that people must strap onto their back the product we deliver and any deviation away from ensuring the airworthiness of an aircraft can have severe consequences. We push our mechanics to adhere to schedules but to never, ever sacrifice quality with speed.
If you are looking for someone to efficiently and safely conduct the maintenance on your aircraft at a fair price, please give us a call. We offer transparency in cost build up and daily status reports of your aircraft while they are in our care so that the trusted souls you put in your aircraft make it home safely.

What do you do when one of your favorite clients needs a safe place to shelter their aircraft from a potentially severe storm? You open your hangar doors—free of charge. We were thrilled to help the Auburn University Flight Academy by providing shelter for their aircraft. They’re a fantastic team to work with, and saying yes to this request was one of the easiest decisions we’ve ever made. War Eagle!

In my 20 years in the Army, working with and managing its helicopter fleet, one essential guiding principle I learned was this: it’s not about how fast you can get the work done, but how efficiently and thoroughly you can produce high-quality maintenance. Someone will always want the job done faster, but they’re not the ones who have to strap the aircraft to their back and fly it.

As a mechanic and later a Production Control Officer, I took my share of criticism for not completing tasks quickly enough. Yet, I never cut corners or sought a “faster” way at the expense of confidence in my work. My focus was always on ensuring that when someone climbed into an aircraft I was responsible for, it would perform as expected, without compromise.

This principle remains my cornerstone as I’ve transitioned into the civilian sector. Recently, we encountered an aircraft that had been previously worked on by individuals who appeared not to share this same commitment. The engine mount showed significant wear, caused by a metal-protected cable that had been rubbing against it for a long time. It was clear this issue hadn’t developed over the last 100 hours—or even the 100 hours before that.

At Advanced Flight Solutions, I’m grateful to be part of a team that prioritizes quality over quantity. Our mechanics are never rushed through their inspections just to move on to the next job. We trust them to perform thorough, detailed inspections so that when our clients take to the skies, we’re confident in their safety and success. And we’re honored when they choose to return to us for future needs.

It's been a fantastic week here at Advanced Flight Solutions! We are excited to be working with a major flight training program to handle their maintenance which will have a positive impact on their training schedule. We're excited to start assisting them soon and looking forward to the potential of providing long-term support.
Our lead mechanic also received a call from a prospective buyer of a Cessna 182 that we recently inspected and prepared for sale. The individual inspected the aircraft in Birmingham and was so impressed with our work that he called to express his appreciation. This could lead to potential engine and avionics modifications if he decides to purchase the aircraft.
I am thrilled and proud to be part of a business that genuinely cares about our clients' satisfaction and the quality of our work. If you are looking for aircraft maintenance and/or Garmin upgrades to your avionics package, give AFS a try. I am pretty sure you will be more than satisfied.

Are you a new owner of an aircraft looking for the best path for managing its maintenance? Your options are:
Owner-Performed: As an aircraft owner, you are allowed to perform certain preventive maintenance if you hold at least a private pilot certificate. This includes changing oil, replacing spark plugs, and other non-complex maintenance activities. However, you must document all work performed in the aircraft’s logbook.
Certified A&P Mechanics: You can hire an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) mechanic to perform maintenance on your aircraft. A&Ps are qualified to handle a range of maintenance tasks and ensure your aircraft meets all regulatory requirements.
FAA Part 145 Repair Stations: Repair stations offer comprehensive services, ensuring compliance with FAA regulations. They employ trained and certified technicians who specialize in various types of aircraft and components. This provides the following benefits:
 High Standards of Safety and Quality: Repair stations are required to adhere to stringent safety and quality standards ensuring all maintenance, inspections, and repairs are performed to high standards, enhancing the safety and reliability of your aircraft.
 Specialized Expertise: Repair stations are highly specialized and employ technicians trained and certified to handle specific types of aircraft and components leading to efficient and effective maintenance.
 Comprehensive Services: Repair stations offer a wide range of services, including airframe, powerplant, propeller, radio, instrument, and accessory maintenance.
 Regulatory Compliance: Using a certified repair station ensures that all maintenance work complies with FAA regulations preserving the airworthiness of aircraft and avoiding potential legal issues.
 Economic Benefits: Using a Part 145 repair station for your aircraft’s maintenance helps maintain the value of your aircraft for future sale and could reduce the cost of insurance.
 Enhanced Safety Management: Repair stations have safety management systems in place, which help in identifying and mitigating risks, ensuring a safer operational environment.
AFS has been providing repair station quality work since originally opened as RainAir Avionics Services in 2001. Located at Albertville Regional Airport – Thomas J.
